Bad beads? Or not enough?

So I ordered a 1/2 lb of heart felt beads (65%) for my 100 ct desktop humi. I have them(beads) in 2 seperate containers and am having trouble maintaining my RH above 60%.

Now it has been REALLY cold here lately and my heat in the house has been running steady but I figured that two containers of beads would be been more then enough to maintain my humi.

Suggestions?

1 - are you sure the hygrometers are correct?

2 - does the humidor have a tight seal?

3 - was the humidor seasoned properly?

1 - are you sure the hygrometers are correct? Yes, am running two one on the lid (digital from this site) and one on the bottom (same kind, and I calibrated both of them)

2 - does the humidor have a tight seal? seems tight to me

3 - was the humidor seasoned properly? yes, I season it like I did my smaller desk top, and according to directions I read on this wonderful sight.

That, and did you follow the chart on Heartfelt's site to make sure you're using the correct bead amount to humidor size ratio?

Are the beads 80 to 90 percent clear? also if you just added a lot of new cigars it will take a will for the humidity to regulate so make sure the beads stay wet. the new cigars seem to suck a lot of humidity out of the beads.

Well my calculations dictate that 2 ounces would suffice. I am using close to 6-7 ounces.

Maybe I should just pull all my sticks back into a tuperdore and start all over and re-season my humi.

I had a similar problem with my desktop when I added more sticks. I had my digital hygrometer calibrated a 1lb of beads, and I would notice a difference in my RH. Although, that was in the summer, and I would still see a decrease in the RH. I would just sit on it for a couple of days and see if it stabilizes. It sounds like your doing everything right.

If your seal is good then order more beads. I have never heard of not enough beads. Or supplement it with a tube or once of those Xikar Clear Humidifiers.

I have a small 150 ct desktop humi with 1Lb and a Xikar humi jar.

Sounds like you should have enough beads. I have been having a problem too with my RH dropping in my 150ct with 70% beads. I came to the conclusion that I have enough beads and that my seal of the humi is so-so but with the heat coming on in my house, it is really taking most of the ambient humidity out of the room. It ususally is around 50-55% but with the heat it is now between 30-35%. I just recharge them more but now I went out and got a cooler. I needed the additional space anyway.....right

What kind of container do you have the beads in? Is the container allowing enough humidity to escape? Do you have enough surface area of the beads exposed in that you don't have 2 inches thick of beads, but rather 1 inch thick beads in a large enough container?
