I just drank a bottle of Ayinger Altbairisch dunkel it had to be the best dark beer to eat with I ever had. Anyone else had this and know where I could buy a case or 2 :whistling: .
Great beer, NOT brewed in the Munich tradition (a good thing in my opinion) that is one of my favorites. It isn#t sold in my area, but I have my Brother-in-law pick me up a case or two everytime he drives up from Munich.
The Altbairisch Dunkel is the most common Ayinger, at least here. I can get it at my local grocery store, and I live in a town of 10,000. There have to be a ton of places you could get it in San Diego. Just hit up BA and find a couple good beer stores near you.
I'm a huge fan of their Celebrator Doppelbock, and their Jahrhundertbier is a good lighter beer.
Ayinger is one of the "genuine" imports. To my recent knowledge, a version is not produced and bottled for the American consumer. Schneider & Sons is another one.
I was very disappointed when Paulaner started doing this as this USED to be my favorite import. I had one entire wall covered with their 5 liter cans depicting the Munich skyline!
I tried the "new" version of their Salvador and just cried. Why they do this is beyond me. It's obvious that now we Americans have a significant knowledge and taste for good beer!
Blame that on the fact that Paulaner is now part of a "Brewing Mega-Group" The "Paulaner" beer your getting in the US is being brewed not by the old Paulaner GmbH but by Thomasbräu GmbH
Its very sad indeed, luckily I have a lot of small breweries in my area that still produce damn good beer.
