Well it was raining cats and dogs here in "Sunny old Germany" last night and I got the hankering to smoke a cigar...
So my wonderful wife offered to drive me to the "Classic Rock Cafe" my favorite watering hole and owned by a fellow BOTL who said they will have to enforce a smoking ban with a shotgun in his place.
View from across the street.
The hand-painted sign, the Bartender Tankred "Tank" put up a few months back and the cigarette machine inside the door, yep this is a smoking bar.
Now onto the review, I received this stick in a bomb from a great BOTL and good friend here at CP, Infinity. When Brian gets in the mood to bomb someone, run for cover! When I received this stick the consensus here at CP was "LET THEM REST!" and I did just that, but I decided last night that it had been long enough and took it with me to the bar.
The stick resting on top of one of the huge speakers right next to the pool table...
Post Clip / Pre light aroma was of good mild tobacco with a bit of grassiness to it, sort of the taste that a Cuaba has after you cut it but not as pronounced. Perfect draw.
The wrapper was flawless and silky smooth to the touch. Hitting the stick with flame produced the same smell as the Pre light test except it was a lot stronger on the nose. Smelled pretty damn good to be honest.
Let me mention something about the AVO 80th for those of you that have a few resting or are planning to purchase a few now that the prices on them have dropped a bit. If your one of the people who likes to leave cigar bands on till the cigar burns down to them, don't do it unless you've checked that they will slip off easily when you get that far. The wrapper on the AVO 80th is thinner than old-school tracing paper and if you wait like I did, removing the band becomes a serious hassle and you WILL damage the cigar. So if it slips around easily feel free to leave it on, but if it sticks like a Fuente band... you might want to remove it before you fire the cigar up.
I paired it with a good cold Dunkel Wiezen, its almost as good as coffee for smoking with a milder smoke.
I threw a euro on the pool table, put together my cue and sat back to watch the play and smoke...
The first inch was IMO too mild and really grassy, I was starting to get the uneasy feeling that this stick might not be for me, when suddenly the grassiness fell into the background and more floral and nutty flavors came to the forefront. Still very mild but tasty... very tasty! The ash was a medium gray color and extremely loose and flakey, not a cigar you'd want to smoke in a storm.
Right around the time I noticed the change for the better
Just some of the eye candy viewed from my seat at the pool table.
