Well, I contacted Avalon Cigars to place an order for an upcoming review series I'm going to be doing. I was going to wait and not smoke them until the review series started, but there were some extras and I wanted to get a feel for the blend, including the cigar: a Honeyboy Edwards Figurado. It has a "Light Cameroon" wrapper, which isn't the prettiest I've ever seen; quite a few spots. The construction is also not as pretty as the short story, but who cares if the draw is fine and it burns well. And thte banding on this cigar is simply fantastic. The jazz musician themed band is metallic and completely stunning, but you'll have to wait to see the formal pics later!
I had some time before going to work today, so I figured I'd burn this little guy. Going into this, I had low hopes as I'm not the biggest fan of the short story, but I was blown away by this little beauty. It burned perfectly, no touch ups needed and had a huge amount of smoke in the beginning. The smoke eventually became more subdued, but there was still adequate amounts. The draw was perfect, a solid medium even at the small foot part of the figurado. The flavors were deep, definitely a medium to medium-full. However, the body was medium, not anything thats going to knock you on your ass. Not a spicy stick either, but there were tons of earthy tones, which became more pronounced as the cigar progressed. The flavors remained constant however, simply building as the burn progressed.
Completely delicious: a must check out for those who love the short story or those who don't. I can't wait to complete my formal review and take more tasting notes for the series in the bigger Robusto vitola.
