Hello everyone, I am new here and well pretty new to keeping cigars too. I usually smoke them too fast to really worry about keeping them but somethings changed. I am in the Navy and I am currently deployed and in doing so I have been to a few other countries which has oppend my selection options by about a 1,000%. Anyway to say the least, I am looking into humidor options and I really like Davidoffs humadors. Well I did anyway until I saw the price tag on them from the next page. But more than the humidore right now, I am more intretested in the automatic humidification system. Which one do I want to get? What is one that the motor work break down on me and where do I get it from? I am looking to have a humidor for about 150 to 200 cigars so I obviously don't need to have a commercial one either. Thank you guys for your help, its greatly appriciated.

Oh but by the way, since I am already here writing this, do you guys have any tips on what brands are better for the humi and hydrometor? I am currently using one of thoughs otterbox humadors. I think that someone else takes the otterbox's box and then puts their own label on it, the "cigar caddy". And I just ordered a digital hydrometor that is the same shape of a cigar so we will see how well that one works with the box I already have.

I don't know much, but what works for me, is working good. I use the gel with a little PG solution and distilled water. It holds my 54qt cooleror right around 64-70% RH. Some fools are against using PG solution, but I haven't had any problems and I know allot of people who also use it. As far as hygrometers go, I have one that sounds similar to yours that is called a Little Havana and I have a Xikar too. Believe it or not, the Little Havana works better at staying accurate. Every time I check it with the salt test, it's spot on. I know I didn't help you with your automatic humidification issue, but this system is working great for me.

Also, you may get more hits on your question after you post an introduction in the Introduce Yourself forum. Folks around here like to get to know ya a little bit. Don't take it the wrong way, just trying to help ya out some. Thanks.

I'll play. Do exactly what I just did for my buddy in the Navy, and I sent it too him just before he got his orders. He thinks it's the best thing ever!

Get a 50 count Pelican or Otterbox, snag a bead puck humidifier from http://www.heartfeltindustries.com/ to replace the sponge humidifier that comes standard. Make sure it has a good hygrometer, his came with a Xikar. (Charge it or fill it with distilled water) Calibrate the digital hygrometer, load it full of your favorite 50 cigars, close it and forget about it. Airtight, water tight, small, functional, will keep the cigars safe and secure for many years!
