After not being able to find too many negative reviews about this cigar, it's possible I have received a cigar from the Big Smoke which was poorly kept. Atuck is sending me one of these cigars, which obviously has been properly stored.

I will re-review this cigar shortly.

Nice day here in LA, so I decided to light up another Big Smoke cigar. It was the Aurora 1495 Series. Unfortunately, this cigar ranks down there with the Helix. La Aurora should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such a horrible cigar. Draw was way too loose. There was absolutely NO flavor profile whatsoever. It tasted EXACTLY like a Winston 100 cigarette. HORRIBLE.

Here's a little background on the cigar:
The La Aurora 1495 had a tough act to follow. The year prior to its release, La Aurora debuted its famous 100 Anos blend which scored as one of the top 3 cigars tasted in 2004 by Cigar Aficionado magazine. However, the 1495 is clearly up to the challenge. This Dominican hand rolled premium features an Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper that seals a Dominican filler which is grown from both Corojo and Ligero seeds. This combination lends to a very complex medium to full bodied blend that is constantly changing over the course of the cigar.

La Aurora is the oldest factory in the Dominican Republic. In 1495, Columbus first landed in the Dominican Republic, founding the city of Santiago de los Caballeros. This new legendary blend from La Aurora commemorates this historical event that marked the beginning of one of the largest cigar capitals in the world. The 1495 is medium to full bodied with earth and leather aromas and a long toasty finish.

In any case, don't bother with this one. I can't believe the price tag on this cigar.

Interesting, I haven't tried one but most of the reviews I've read rated them pretty good to very good.

I know, I can't figure it out. Even the other reviews on CP rate it has a pretty good cigar.

Thanks for the review and the heads up. I was thinking of looking into them but will try something else. That line about being the oldest cigar factory will get old if it is put on poor products.

That's odd, I thought they were pretty good. Fairly strong (at least the coronas are), but not terribly complex. What vitola was yours, Rod?

I decided t ogo get a 1495 Belicoso to see for myself. I am smoking it right now. I am finding it quite pleasant. I am sensing some sweet spice and wood.

Actually, the Corona size is my favorite. This is the size I would suggest Rod give it another try with.

The Corona's are the size to smoke  . Your's may have been fresh too.

I first tried the robusto and really enjoyed it. Later, I picked up a fiver of coronas and wasn't impressed. I'm letting them chill out for a while now, but I'm not expecting much.

I definitely agree with Rod on the price. In MN, the robusto is like $11. Ridiculous. For $4 more dollars I bought an Opus robusto in the same store. Cigar economics, go figure.

I picked up a box of Coronas back in December. I've only had a few so far and they weren't bad. They did taste like they could use a little age. I'll probably burn another pretty soon to see how they are doing. I wouldn't pay MSRP for them, but I picked up a box for $82 and am very happy with it.

I've never been a huge fan of Aurora, but the 1495 was easily the best of them I've sampled. Nice flavor, long finish.

Very Cool Rod! Will include a couple 100 anos for comparison sake.
