i mentioned this on another thread, but no one replied, so here i go again lol! was checking out jr cigar auction site and people don't seem to be comparing bid prices with jr's regular prices, wow, almost every bid is over regular price, have'nt been able to place a bid yet. guess the heat of competion is overwhelming for some, discuss  !

Sorta like cbid in that respect. I think what is causing this is that JR's doesnt start their pricing at $1.00. They are starting it as a price point that looks to be above their break even point. Well at least on some auctions they are. At that point, it is easy to get caught up in a bidding war. Also, I am sure some oare over paying because they aren't using the auto bid. In reality, the auto bid will save you from paying too much if you set the price point correctly.

Emo

People are silly sometimes. I always check out the prices before I bid and come up with my top price to pay. If it goes over that then hey I'm not gonna win this one.

I think that their starting bids are way too high.....

CBid starts their prices at $1... I think that is what draws more people.

As far as over-bidding...... people need to do their homework..... idiots

So far the JR auctions have not interested me at all because of this reason. Which sucks because I had high hopes for their auctions. Hopefully they will get it right over time.

On a diff. note, every auction I've won at cbid has been well under msrp.

Same here too . . . always under retail, sometimes even when you factor in the shipping. Some people are more into winning that paying attention to price.

...which is exactly why JR et al set up sites like this.

Yeah they don't say "hey, let me set up this auction sight and see if everyone will get great deals and I'll make no moeny".

 it's true, the retailers are out to make money, but the one thing we as consumers are able to control is what we bid. maybe i just never realized how many people that were out there with so much money, i'm going to have to check out those commercials on how to get rich thru real estate or just do something different, lol!

the only way I'll bid on anything is to look at what I want to bid on, look up the identical item at 3 other places, find out what they are priced at, then bid on the item at at LEAST $30-40 under the retail price that I can order it for elsewhere. And that's for the smokes I really like or know! Otherwise if I see something I want to try or have been told is good, but not tried myself, then I'll bid even less under the retail.

then here's the key... I WALK away from the auction! I don't look again until I get a won or lost email. Otherwise it's way too easy to get caught up int he bidding war for that item and pay way too much.

And lately, I have't bought very much as the prices are going over the top...

cbid has the same problem I usually just wait till the compulsive buyers spend all their money and get the same one the following week.

Patience young grasshopper.

JR cigars auction site SUCKS!
I wouldn't give it a second look. The cigar prices start out at 60%+ of what the retail value is. That 60% is what any joe blow sells them at not at the sale price that cigars international sells them at.

I hate a copy cat.

Been shopping cbid for over a year and I see it happen all the time. What's worse is most don't realize they have a regular store and sometimes that prices is cheaper. :sign:
