Here is another curly maple ashtray. The "curly" figure is caused by the grain of the wood running in waves. The "waves," when sanded and finished, catch and reflect light, exhibiting a chatoyancy reminiscent of some gemstones.
The grid under the tray is graduated in 1" squares.

This is a larger piece with nice curly figure.
