Just curious if anyone else has had a problem with the wrappers on their Ashton VSGs lately. I have purchased about 5 from two different retailers over the last month. At least two of them have pretty major splits in the wrappers that were not there when I bought them. I have not been rough on them and they have been kept at around 70% give or take.

I smoke one last night...a sorcerer. It smoked great, burned even. Performed better than most undamaged cigars. It is just sad to look down at these really nice cigars and see damaged wrappers. :(

Any ideas??

I have not had any wrapper issues with the VSG's I have smoked.

I have picked up several from 3 different stores.
COuld it be a storage issue in your humi?

Storage issue would be my guess as well; these cigars are impeccably made, and the Ecuadorian wrappers are rather thick.

I have had 7 of the Tres Mystique's in the last month or so and all were first rate in both construction and taste.

The rest of the box (I kept 9 of the 24) went out on a split, but they all looked good to me.

Sounds like one of two things happening...

Either they are too wet (I keep mine at 62%)

Or you may be smoking too fast, geting it too hot...

In my experience, keeping the humidity down in the lower 60's tends to give me a better smoking experience.

Good luck!

I agree. These cigars are built too good for that. I've never had a problem and I'm an Ashton whore lol

Last time I bought some Enchantments (December) I picked up 4 of them and didn't notice 2 were split at the nipple foot until I got them home. (don't you just love saying nipple foot, I digress).

I was really nice when I sent CC lotto winnings in January and made sure his nipple was intact. :D

Thanks for everyone's input. Thinking about the cigars, it might indeed be a storage issues. I keep my cabinet humi around 70%. As I remember, both cigars had been out for a few days (not in humidification) before they got put in the humi. I think the big change probably caused the split. Might have had better luck had I put them in my "dry box" (around 62%) before introducing them to the higher.

I agree on the VSGs as far as construction...they are among the best. I think that is why I was so surprised. Anyway, I'll pay more attention and hopefully that will alleviate the problem.

Thanks again for the input.
