It's Superbowl Sunday and I had to take the wife's car to get a tire replaced, ugh. I just got a bunch of new smokes this last week and decided to have a visit with one I've never tried before, the Ashton VSG Tres Mystique.
I really enjoy cigars this size, the ring gauge and length suit the amount of time I typically like to spend destroying my lungs. The wrapper is such a nice, deep, chocolate brown and the construction is solid and dense.
I gave the Mystique a cut and enjoyed an extended time in pre-light before I actually lit the cigar. I didn't expect all of the flavours I tasted. First there was a hint of spice and a lot of musty tobacco taste. Then I must have been thinking about the banana cream pie my wife bought for the Superbowl Party today, because I swear I tasted banana. Well, there definately was a fruit taste. And then a nuttiness. I was really getting anxious to lit this smoke.
Finally left the tire shop and got to lit up on my deck at home. The burn was fantastic and the draw provided a nice even amount of smoke throughout the Mystique's hour-long life. The ash dropped once and after an inch and then the second ash stayed in place the rest of the smoke.
The flavours were all the same that I tasted in pre-light. The Mystique was consistent with none of the changes I've come to expect from other cigars I smoke. Power really wasn't there with this cigar. I never got heady, but rather enjoyed just a nice, light and mellow taste of tobacco with the suggestion of fruit, nut, and a faint hint of spice.
What a nice way to start a Sunday morning... and I'm looking forward to smoking another Mystique once they've had some rest in the 'dor. GO STEELERS!
