Ashton VSG Tres Mystique is a nice mystery

Cigar Name: Ashton VSG Tres Mystique

Cigar Description: Ecuadorian wrapper with long aged Dominican long filler

Review of the Cigar itself: It lit beautiful and the first draw was flavourful without being overpowering. The ash didn't flake like other cigars I've had and it held it together well. The previous Ashton VSG I had came close to my palate preference for Padron Serie 1926 cigars. The burn is consistent with minor tugboating (where the cigar burns more on one side than the other) but the cigar recovered nicely from that fairly quickly.

The size, a 4.3 x 44 guage, isn't indicative of the flavour that's produced from the cigar. It's is well constructed enough to ensure a long ash that held together. The taste is a mild nutty flavour with robust spicey flavour and minor hints of cedar, peaking in now and again. Additionally, it wasn't wrapped too tight thus allowing a good draw to come. The initial ash fell on it's own in one piece and the burn continued with a consistent, even burn.

The smoke that comes from it is a nice gentle white smoke that isn't over powering. Even with a deep draw, the smoke wafes gently up from it without turning the air around me blue and overwhelming. As it continued to burn, the 2nd part of the ash continued the same as the first part -- held together, indicating attention to how the cigar was made and put together. And for more than 60% of the cigar, I never had to relight it. I did touch it up a bit, to help it after the 2nd ash fell.

For the last 3rd, it continued burn consistently and evenly as it burned down to the nub.

I enjoyed this cigar with a bottle of spring water to clean out the palate and the company of a beautiful woman. What more could I ask for for a great evening: a cigar that I'd rate a 9/10 with a 11/10 companion. Life sometimes shows itself as perfect.

Smoke time: approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes

Purchased from: Barclay-Rex Cigar Store in Wall Street district

Final Review Rating: 9/10 and defintely would smoke it again

Nice review. I've been working in the city the last 2 days. With all the secret service, morning travel has been miserable. Damn Bush.

Very nice review of one of my favorite "don't have much time to smoke" cigars. An hour and a half to smoke though?? You must have been a little more enamored with the beautiful woman than the cigar.

One of my absolute fave cigars. If you like the Tres Mystique, the Illusion is just like it but longer. Both great cigars.

Wilkey

You can never go wrong with a nice VSG, probably one of my top 5 favorite smokes.

The Tres I had was over 2 years old, and was unbelievably fantastic. My review is floating around somewhere.
Don't let them hassle you about smoking time, they are just jealous you got to enjoy it longer!

Cigar Name: Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970.

Cigar Description: Nicaraguan Puro long filler.

Review of the Cigar itself: This has been a very consistent cigar. This is not a cigar for beginners. It is very strong and packed with flavor. The taste is a combination of pepper and leather, very complex and just gets better the more you smoke.

The Belicoso is 6x54 with a nice construction and a dark oily wrapper and does not fall apart. I have had a few tunnel but no side burn. I have been smoking these for six years almost every day. The draw is even and smooth as well as holding a solid ash.

Again, this is not for the novas but if you like a sturdy smoke, I rate this a 8.5 out of 10.

The

One more thing. The Antaño 1970 comes in many sizes. I am 6" 4" and 250lbs. Be careful. After I smoke a Gran Cónsul I need to sit 15 minutes

Magnum 660 (6x60)
Perfecto (6 1/8x50-58)
Churchill (6 7/8x48)
Belicoso (6x54)
Robusto Grande (5 ½x52)
Gran Cónsul (4 ¾x60)
Lancero (7½x38)
Cónsul (4 ½x52)
Machito (4 ¾x42)

Happy Smoking

The tres Mystique is an amazing little smoke that packs a real punch. IMO that are more satisfying than the larger sizes taste wise. I picked up a box of robustos for an upcoming deployment but I'm currently smoking through that box faster than I would like. Need to muster up the will power to set a few of these aside.

Thanks for all the comments. I will be definitely trying out the other sizes of this brand. And I tend to be often distracted by her, not that I mind to say the least. ;)
