Ok here's the pedigree:
Size: 7 x 49
Cigar Shape: Churchill (Box Pressed)
Cigar Filler: Dominican Republic
Cigar Binder: Dominican Republic
Cigar Wrapper: Ecuador
I received two of these in a sampler buy from a great BOTL here at CP. In my humidor about a week @ 65 to70 %. I don't know how long they had been put down prior.
I was going to let them sit a few months before trying one but they looked so good I couldn't resist.
The wrapper was fairly smooth and dry and not oily at all. A little pressure between my fingers yielded no give at all. I was kind of worried but thought maybe this was because it was box pressed. I could discern no measurable aroma pre-cut from the length of the cigar. Clipped the end, pre-light draw again yielded no discernable flavors.
Toasted the foot, lit up and this is where I began to get worried. A strong spicy & peppery taste permeated throughout the first draw. I'm not one for strong spice / peppery so I was already beginning to get disappointed.
Well to my relief and pleasure this lasted only a moment and it was followed by a burst of intense fruity and then floral flavors. Next came a leathery smoothness followed then by a smooth creaminess. This was then capped off by a buttery flavor. All this was only halfway through the smoke, which lasted an hour and forty minutes in total.
Well the second half of the smoke was not as exciting but still pleasurable starting with a light liquorice taste, a faint fruityness ending with some buttery leatherness.
I decided to nub as I hoping for another burst of intense fruit and floral but was not rewarded.
Overall the smoke was very smooth and had light hints of spicyness throughout. It did not burn hot at all even down to the nub. Drawing took a little effort and the volume of smoke was less than I had expected for a cigar of this size. I wonder if the second half of the smoke would have been improved by some more down time? (I'm sure it would) I will be finding some more to put down for an extended period of time.
I greatly enjoyed this smoke which was my first VSG, although the balmy 98 degree SC afternoon today left alot to be desired.
I leave you with the view from my favorite smoking spot and my trusty canine guarding my stash!
