This was the cigar that really got me excited about cigars some time ago. I was at a bachelor party and I smoked one with my friend Erik and loved it. Strong with some spice. Definitely full bodied and it was perfect after the steak dinner we had. It was always a go to favorite for me when I had a choice of premium smokes and didn't know what to get. I figured I would fire up another one with pics of course and try to get some others excited about this smoke.

The Specimen:

Away we go:
The cap was clipped with the Zino and the prelight draw was very easy. I got scared that the smoke might burn a little hot but only time would tell. The foot was toasted with the torch and she was allowed to rest a minute before I got down to business. Initial flavors were woody and the smoke was plentiful. Here is a pic...

Keep on Truckin:
After an inch or so it was on. Spice was there right upfront and the woody flavors kept on. The sungrown wrapper was aromatic and sweet on the lips. This was definitely a more "natural" experience after all of the maduros I have been smoking lately. The ash was holding together fine and I was glad at this point that I switched to 65% media recently because my burn was razor sharp. Take a look...

Finishing Up:
I lost the ash simply because the adhesive from the band was too strong and I had to use some force. I also lost a shot at five Anejos :D This flavor kept on going for a while alhough the burn bacame a little hot. I took it down to the nub as usual. Check it out...

Final Thoughts...
Still a very good cigar and always a champion in my book. To me the sungrowns allow me to maintain relatively connected with natural wrappers because of the more up front characteristics and sweet/spice I feel they lend to a smoke. I am usually partial to maduro smokes because they don't taste raw to me like some naturals do, but the VSG fills the gap. Thanks for allowing me to participate in this forum! Marc

Nice review again, Marcos.

I agree that there's something magical about this particular sungrown wrapper. It is unique among the few other sungrown lines I've tried. Probably the Fuente Cuban Beli and 858 SG come the closest.

BTW, how does the robusto compare to the thinner gauge VSGs (Tres Mystique, Illusion) in terms of flavor intensity and density for you?

Nice review Marcos,

I dig reading reviews on any VSG because it is my favorite line of cigar. I echoe what Wilkey is saying and yourself about the sun grown wrapper. There's just something about these that jump out at me and demand my attention everytime I smoke one.

I do have to say though, that the Robusto is one of my lesser favorite vitolas. I say lesser favorite because they are all still very tastey.

To me they don't have the flavor intensity that the thinner gauges have, like Wilkey was asking (Tres and Illusion).

All great though, good review!

Nice review! These are definitely on my "Top 5" list, right behind Anejo's. I love the whole VSG line, but the Robusto and the Enchantment are the ones I enjoy the most. Good job.

Thanks for the review. Makes me want to leave work and go smoke. I love the VSGs, the Robusto is right behing the Torpedo.

:) I love the whole line. You just can't go wrong. Nice review buddy.

I have never had the Tres or the Illusion yet. I do have a few Corona Gordas and would be happy to do a comparitive study when I torch one of them up if you like.

Great review and I always like the pictures.

Like Brickhouse, the VSG is my favorite line. If I had to pick, I'd go with: Corona Gorda, Enchantment, Tres Mystique and Wizard (this one is moving up fast).

snip.....and Wizard (this one is moving up fast).

Yeah, I've only had one (thanks Fetter), but this would be the only exception to my statement.

This is a fat boy, but lots of flavor, really enjoyed that one.

Great review once again Marcos, I really enjoyed it.

I have a few VSG's resting in the coolidor and haven't smoked one yet. Not sure what I was waiting for but I will torch one this weekend. Thanks for the insight, keep it up!

Man great review Marcos, I'm really happy to see so many brothers stepping up with fine reviews!

Now as far as the VSG goes, I like the smaller sizes better, the larger ones seem (to me) to mute the flavor too much.

Oh and a VSG Robusto was the first cigar in recent history to knock me on my butt and make me green... I'll never smoke one on an empty stomach again.

I agree, only I'd say the effect was more like dilution. We're on the same page.

Wilkey, have you had the Wizard yet though? The one I had really had a lot of flavor.

I agree with that assessment minus the Wizard, just curious to your opinion.
