This was the cigar that really got me excited about cigars some time ago. I was at a bachelor party and I smoked one with my friend Erik and loved it. Strong with some spice. Definitely full bodied and it was perfect after the steak dinner we had. It was always a go to favorite for me when I had a choice of premium smokes and didn't know what to get. I figured I would fire up another one with pics of course and try to get some others excited about this smoke.
The Specimen:
Away we go:
The cap was clipped with the Zino and the prelight draw was very easy. I got scared that the smoke might burn a little hot but only time would tell. The foot was toasted with the torch and she was allowed to rest a minute before I got down to business. Initial flavors were woody and the smoke was plentiful. Here is a pic...
Keep on Truckin:
After an inch or so it was on. Spice was there right upfront and the woody flavors kept on. The sungrown wrapper was aromatic and sweet on the lips. This was definitely a more "natural" experience after all of the maduros I have been smoking lately. The ash was holding together fine and I was glad at this point that I switched to 65% media recently because my burn was razor sharp. Take a look...
Finishing Up:
I lost the ash simply because the adhesive from the band was too strong and I had to use some force. I also lost a shot at five Anejos This flavor kept on going for a while alhough the burn bacame a little hot. I took it down to the nub as usual. Check it out...
Final Thoughts...
Still a very good cigar and always a champion in my book. To me the sungrowns allow me to maintain relatively connected with natural wrappers because of the more up front characteristics and sweet/spice I feel they lend to a smoke. I am usually partial to maduro smokes because they don't taste raw to me like some naturals do, but the VSG fills the gap. Thanks for allowing me to participate in this forum! Marc
