Got home from work on Friday. . .with an Ashton VSG Illusion from my boss! I thought I would put it in the Humi and save it for Thanksgiving to enjoy after the turkey and brag to my step-dad who seems to think that machined rolled is a great deal!
I was able to resist the temptation all weekend, CAO Cameroon on Sat, CAO MX2 during the first round of games and 5 Vegas Series A for the afternoon football.
Tonight while watching the Seahawks pound on the Niners, I could resist anymore! I pulled out Illusion and it smelled wonderful. . . put it back NAH! Tasted the cap, nice and earthy with a hint of spice. The construction was perfect, thick sungrown wrapper, the band just slid right off. This is going to be a great cigar.
Sparked up the lighter, "don't rush it, toast it, take you time." I noticed an aroma that no person could ignore, my wife even commented on how good it smelled. The draw was smooth and full of flavorful smoke. The first drag was perfect not harsh but full of earthy spice with a hint of. . . I don't know greatness. The first third was smooth and not like the other full bodied smokes I have enjoyed. This one was full of flavor and body with out some of the mild harshness, and the finish was not overpowering. The burn was as straight as you can expect from such a thick wrapper, not too bad. When the ash FINALLY fell it fell flush and straight. As the cigar reminded me that all good things come to an end, the flavor mellowed and the burn was even and slow.
As I took the final puff, I was sad that it had ended so abruptly. This was truly one of the finest I have to date, I am not sure if it was the price. . . even with tax free is a good price, truly enjoyable.
I have been looking for the cigar that would dominate my humi and I think I have found it. Then I looked to see how much a box was. The wife would kill me. . . I know this is what she bought me for Christmas!
Enjoy,
Nick
