Guess who gave this to me?

:moki:

So when I said I was giving up on VSGs moki rose to the challenge and gifted me one of these at the "scotch herf."

Well,

I stand corrected. THIS is a fine cigar. And it's obviously been stored correctly since it was made.

I don't know if the blend has changed, or if VSGs just need lots of age to become great, but this is a good cigar.

It's kind of a cross between a regular fuente sungown and an Opus X. I don't taste raspberries, oak, and purple stars when I smoke cigars so that's about all I can say.

Draw-perfect

Burn--perfect

Construction-perfect

I'm pretty sure there's something hallucinogenic in this thing though, cos I hear ringing in my ears and feel kind of lightheaded....different from a normal nicotine buzz. First moki slips a roofie in my drink at the herf and now he's sprinkling LSD in my cigars.

i have some VSG's that i have had sence 1999, most from that time had more of a round shape. They should keep them that way, they burn better.
They also have a more of a red color to the wrapper, not as much of a maduro color like they are now.

These are my 2nd favorite NC cigar. I'll grab a box whenever I can. They are so tasty. I just ordered a box in the torpedo size. I do wish I had the opportunity to try the round ones that have been aged so long. I'll bet that they are outstanding.

Sounds nice! I still have a VSG ER Belisco Andrew gifted me  Gotta smoke that as soon as my sinuses clear up.

I had recently smoked a "round" VSG torp, that I have been aging since 1999.
It was still spicy, and full power(for me).
It didn't loose any strength, it just got more rounded.
Very good smoke with the age.

This cigar can not be compared to the VSG's of today. This cigar is over produced and lacks the gusto of the first coupla years.

You know...I hope the older VSG "rounds" are better than the newly rolled VSG's. I just got done smoking a VSG "Enchantment", the short perfecto shape. And it was OK...not the greatest. Good amount of smoke and perfect draw, the construction was perfect but it left such a bad "cigarette ashtray" taste on my mouth that I don't know if i ever want to smoke another. Maybe just need them to age a couple of years...but I don't have the space or the patience to do that. Am I just wrong or do I need to smoke more of them to really appreciate what they are?

Glad to have my thoughts validated by the experience of others.

Thanks to moki for the stick, and thanks to the rest of you for sharing your experiences.

I think the main thing to remember here is that the Ashton line is maufactured BY Fuente FOR Holt's. Holt's also owns and runs Casa Fuente, which by all accounts is very high priced, and has cannibalized shipments of rare Fuentes to the regular resellers.

I just can't imagine that fuente puts the same effort into a line made for someone else as the stuff that goes into a box that says "Arturo Fuente" on it.

When they first thought it up maybe they had more time and less units to push, and the project was more exciting.

The VSG line is obviously a runaway success, and I think Holt's has perhaps allowed the quality to get washed out a bit in pursuit of the almighty buck. Something Fuente would NEVER do with their own product. Of course I am not provy to the relationship between Fuente and Holt's so who knows. But it does make sense.

Anyways I appreciate the stick moki, a lot, but I think I am done with VSGs. The new stuff just doesn't cut it.

So, VSG, as Leebo would say,

YOU'RE DONE.

You don't have permission to quote me, asshat!

I think you've done yourself in lately with your asinine posts of late, so Lumpy....YOU'RE DONE!! ;)
