After work, I went to the driving range to break the rust loose from the winter hibernation. After watching about 100 shots I was less than impressed with my swing and decided to call it a day.
Knowing that my wife was at work and the place would be mine tonight I thought I would stop off at one of the shops I had not been to for some time. I picked up a few of my faves and as usual, something new.
I chose the corona gorda (5.75 x 50---I think)
A beautiful chocolate brown with no pronounced veins. fairly firm but not stiff and a nice cap. Typical Ashton construction that I have come to expect. This fragrant cigar accepted my punch rather graciously and presented me with a nice mellow flavor on the pre-light draw. Upon lighting the draw was almost effortless and produced a nice amount of thick cohesive smoke that coats the palette. The burn was excellent never needing a touchup and the ash was a solid white that I tapped after an inch and a half.
The flavor presented that nice Cammy tang all the way through kinda like a mexican mole sauce. Not as pronounced as the maduro and not as spicy bold as the VSG but there was a depth to the profile that was very enjoyable.
I would rate this as a very favorable cigar. Maybe 90 but at $9.00 it will have to be reserved for when it fits my mood.
coffee --------- cappucino ---------- hot chocolate
VSG -------- Puro sol --------- Maduro
