Do not adjust your monitor. That is the actual size of this cigar.
The Opus X A is the largest of the Opus X line; a veritable monster at 9 1/4" x 47. I've had some of these for a while, but despite wanting to spark one up, I've just never really had the time I feared it would take. Finally I decided enough was enough, and marked off an evening of poker to smoke this bad boy.
Most of the Opus X A's come in their own individual sealed coffins, and sell for rather ridiculous prices on the Internet, due to their relative scarcity. So of course, I had to give it a shot.
Despite the size of this cigar, it lit up rather easily, and had a nice draw. I'm in the habit of clenching cigars in my mouth as I smoked them hands-free, and it was a little odd with this one because the weight of it required actual effort to keep the cigar from falling out. I also had to be careful not to turn my head to quickly at the crowded poker table for fear that I'd burn someone's eye out.
Drama regarding the size aside, the cigar was surprisingly mild. I enjoy Opus X cigars for their jalapeno flavor and that wonderful Opus X buzz. This was sadly lacking with the Opus X A I smoked. It was Jack Daniels cut with water. Jimi Hendrix played at 1/2 volume.
It was still an enjoyable smoke, it just wasn't what I'd signed up for. I have to say, if I wanted to smoke a large Opus X, I'd reach for a Double Corona before an Opus X A. Why this cigar seems to be rated so highly, I don't quite understand. I know, I know... you still have to try it. That's fine, but keep your expectations in check.
