Currently I have a diamond crown majestic desktop humi thats been with me for about 8 years, holds around 75-100 . Lately I find myself needing more space ..........I just purchased an aristocrat mini w/o humidification as Im strapped for $$ at the moment. I thought I would either use beads ,Hydra™ Humidifier or a cigar oasis xl, till i can get the set and forget system, I did use the search but I was wanting to hear from others that have the same type setup or have had it in the past. would appreciate any info .thanks

You could just run it on the beads in the mean time until you get a system rigged up. Purchase more beads than you need.

As for humidification systems, need I say it, search is your friend. :D Rod has detailed instructions explaining his system and there are many others,

Ok, take it from one Al to another.

I have had a Mini for about two years and love it. Been perfect since the day it arrived. Check out my Gallery for pics.

I orignally had beads and installed a fan hooked up to a timer to move the air. The beads worked great, but I did find i was wetting them frequently. Especailly in the winter with the heat on in the house in a dreer enviroment. I know I could have ordered more beads, but didnt.

Last monthy I swtiched to the Hydra unti and love it. I took Mark Twain's advice (search for his Hydra/SAP thread) and swapped out the foam for SAPs. I have not added water since I changed it over and it is almost a month.

The Mini holds steady at 70% (+/- 1%) with out fail. I only have 1-2% difference in the top and bottom as I have the Hydra sitting on the shelf of the Mini (versus) the bottom.

I did purchase the Hydra with the mini fans, however I think they are too small to move the air. I re-wired my larger fan to connect to the ribbon from the Hydra and it goes off and on when the Hydra unitl comes on.

The Hydra can more than handle a Mini.

Feel free to PM me iwth any questions.

I had contamplated a Set and Forget, but the way this is running, I dont think I would change. I travel a lot for work and have no worries about this unit when I am gone.

Good Luck!.

Al

I have the Mini with Set and Forget and it has been perfect for over a year. Of course since then I've bought more cigars than it could hold so I've had to buy a coolerdor. Consistent 65-66% humidity. I also have beads (I took the foam out of those cheap humidifiers and replaced it with 65% beads)- 2 are on the very top and another under one of the shelves just to make sure the humidity is consistent throughout.

I have considered placing the humidification unit on the shelf instead of the bottom like CigarAl, but right now with the added beads (which I rarely wet) I have the unit displaying 66% on the bottom and an Oregon Scientific sensor showing 66% on the top shelf. Very happy with the set up.

The hydra sounds like a winner, after reading up on the hydra/sap threads I've decided to go that route ,thanks .
