I am brand new to cigar smoking.A friend of mine hooked me up with a couple Cuban Cohiba Siglo 1's and now I am hooked. The Siglos as you know are pretty hard to come by(for me) so is there anything else you could recommend that has a similer taste. Also I think that the Siglo 1 was just the right size for a rookie like myself.

Hi jkoj,

Welcome to CP. Spend a little time here, get to know the guys and I'm sure we can introduce you to many more forbidden pleasures of the leaf. :)

As for your question, the short answer is "no." However, a more constructive way to dissect that question might be for me to ask you what it was that you enjoyed about the Siglo I. The answers you provide just might allow us to recommend NC's (non-Cubans) that provide various aspects of the Siglo I experience you enjoy. In other words, you won't find a Cohiba clone, but you might be able to find cigars that exhibit some of the qualities you relished.

For example, consider the following:
How did you like the size? Was it easy to hold? Did it provide enough smoking time? Would you prefer a larger cigar?

How was the strength? Did you find it a bit weak or did it give you headspins and queasiness?

How was the texture/body? Did you find it creamy? How about smooth, dry, clear, refreshing? What did you like?

How was the flavor? Did you detect any aromas or tastes on your tongue that reminded you of other foods or drinks in a good or bad way? Was there a flavor that you'd like to experience again, perhaps even more forecfully?

Thinking about it in this way, you'll learn more about what it is that you enjoy about particular cigars and also hopefully find accessible examples of sticks that can give you facets of that experience.

Of course, you could dive full force into Habanos, but I think it would be safer, less risky and less expensive to do your learning on cigars that you can buy at a local dealer. Well, unless you live in a non-embargo country then nevermind. :D

Sorry but there is nothing in the non Cuban market that tastes like a Cohiba.

So.... outside of the Cohiba line in Cuba what in your opinion comes closest in taste to the Sig 1?

Not that I can think of.

In my experience nothing from anywhere tastes like a Cuban Cohiba. The closest would be the Trini RE or Fundadores.

There is no substitute

Why did I have a feeling lucasbuck would reply in this thread? :)

Because his tastebuds are gone and is living on a memory

And that is coming from a cohiba whore. And I do mean whore! :D

Agree on the trinis, also the Bolivar corona extra have a hint of the same taste to them, at least the 99s do, or so I hear. :)

I guess what I first liked about it was the smell of the tobacco before I lit it.I was not expecting to enjoy it that much.I had tried cigars before(cheapos)and I could not smoke the whole thing.I thought the size was perfect for a beginner like myself, not too thick and just the right length. The smoke was awesome I dont quite know how to desribe it but it tasted a little spicy. It made the Johnny Walker Black taste smoother.I do have one more that my buddy gave me so I will do another report on my second one. Thanks for the help guys.I did see a domimnican cohiba in a cigar store up here for $11.00 how are those?

I've never tried one, I guess I'm glad I haven't! :)

I can't wait until my Cohiba IV's age a bit more so I can start trying enjoying them!

Smoking a Cohiba Robusto now. I'm going to have to say that the answer to your question is a big NO!!!! Sorry bro.

I hate to shatter your dreams, but NO domestic taste anything like a Cuban, much less a Cohiba. Happy hunting.
