Anyone interested in an electronic humidifier?

Im just wondering how many people would be interested in a cheap electronic humidification system, possibly with interchangeable means of humidifying your humidor. I am currently looking into the design and sale of a small, attractively assembled control for the humidity inside of a humidor, with 2 displays- one of desired and one of current humidity. The unit would be compatible with various small detachable humidifiers, to suit individual needs based on the size of the humidor, and the placement of the humidifier inside the humidor. I was wondering approximately what the average cigar smoker would be willing to pay for such a unit, and was also hoping to gain some helpful feedback for the design process.

thanks,
MW

Sounds interesting. If you could sell them for significantly less the the Cigar Oasis you might have something. Probably in the neighborhood of $40-$50 I would think.

I'd go along with Craig on the price. Refillability (hey, a new word), cost and size would be the decideing factors for me. I find the Cigar Oasis both too expensive and too bulky,
and having to pay for pre-filled containers of distilled water is ridiculous.

And I agree with Psyktek buying distilled water is silly.

I only use beads so in my case, I wouldn't be interested at all regardless of price.

But hey, that's just me.......

What would make it better than Matt Avallo's or Arlin Liss's? I have had a custom built Avallo system with one gallon capacity and 4 extra circulation fans for about a year now and cant say a bad thing about it.

well, if i remember correctly, the avallo system is an additional $200 and only available with one of the humidors...making it kind of unpractical to use with....well, any other humidor...

There would be a good market for an INEXPENSIVE humidifier that does all the cigar oasis does for less

The comments added by the 'consumers' here [tap water freindly priced +/->$50] are real issues if you want to 'appeal' to the 'value priced' gaget buyer.

If I understood, you would offer a 'controller' and a 'sensor' that would be one component, and various sized humidifiers as the 2nd component?

Issues you might want to make clear are how the two are connected? Is the an electrical/power supply that is used? Do componets sit inside or outside the humidor? Etc etc.

As to making a Humidification system fit into a tabletop humidor [any of the current versions by CMT, Avallo or my Artisan] I know they can be made to work well. Expensively but well:

You would be a welcome vendor if you could offer an alternative to exisiting products!

Good luck!

There is an exception to that rule, if I were to buy a humi from Arlin, now THAT would be a different story ;)

FYI, Matt will sell his system separately and customize it to your needs, you just have to call and talk to him about your needs and he will set you up.

Alright, thanks for the input, I was just going based on what his website said... Does anyone have any suggestions for design? what type of housing would be "best" for you...etc.... Also, does anyone else think that the seperate humidification "peices" that would be interchangable are a good idea, or a waste of time? Basically I'm trying to get some input as to what most of you would view as your dream humidifier, what power source would be used? would you have to modify your humidor to install the unit, or would that be a serious drawback? What capacity of water would you prefer it to hold? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

This reeks (sp?) of someone wanting someone else to design it and .. aww hell, it worked for Bill Gates.

hey, im not getting you guys to design it, im getting you guys to tell me what you want me to pay someone else to design :D
