Here's the stats:

New 150 ct glass top humi with a tray. 2 digital hygros both salt tested within 1%. After 2 and 1/2 weeks of sitting with a shot glass and charged foam, it was only reading 63%. I contacted the reputable person I bought it from and he said that he's only seen a couple of bad seals come from him. He suggested it might be extremely dry wood so he said to try wiping it down 1st. I reluctantly did a couple of times and it is at about 67 right now. I also now have 2 larger dishes of distilled water. Let me clarify....in the bottom, UNDER the tray it is 67. ABOVE the tray it is reading 72. It has now been 3 weeks. Am I being a nervous ninny? My cigars want to find a home.

Mine took almost a month before it stabilized properly.

Patience my friend (that's what I was told too).

You may want to change over from foam to beads.

Less worries and easier to maintain.

10-4. Half pound o viper beads on order.

You wanna hear some more bad news? Ordered 25 stogies from my fave place and they had beetle evidence when they showed up so they sent me 25 more and 3 days after I got them they hatched 3 larva. Found the little bastards crawling around in the ziplock (I was observing them before going into the humi). All going into the freezer now, though some people say it's useless, I have to try it or the beetles will enjoy the cigars before I do. I assume the temp got too high in transit

I read that sometimes its hard to get stabilized Rh in empty humi. You need to fulfill at least 50% of humi capacity with cigars and then if You'll have Rh problem You can get angry, but not now when its empty :)

Yea it is tough to get an empty one stabilized. Around 63 you should be fine adding your smokes. And yes the humidity will change from the top of the humi to the bottom. The "heavy, wet" air will gravitate to the bottom. Not to big of a deal if you get into your humi often. It has been my case that once you get over 70 you are into mold territory, as a few months back I had to toss 10 or gars that got moldy.

Now with the beads and a full humidor you should see it stabilize.
Hope this helps.

Who is this retailer who keeps sending you beetles?

I would call them again and let them know. After two shipments with beetles, sounds like they have a problem on thier hands.

WEll you are in Arizona where it's awfully dry so my guess is that's most of the problem. My coolerdoors are in my finished basement where the humidity in the room is almost always 60% so I never have problems like that.

Lots of folks are perfectly happy with their cigars at 63-65. I would start to load it up once you have your bug problem under control.

Actually, I'm finding that the moist air is hovering around the top for some reason. Right now it is 66 under the tray and 71 above. And I do prefer it around 65% and I ordered the 65 beads so I think I'm golden.

Again, temp wise, I keep my house between 71 and 73 so I think I'm ok there too. The cigars ship from Chicago and take about 4 days to get here ups. Now, It just happened to be on the last batch, they loaded on the UPS truck at 7am and did not arrive to my house until after 4pm....on a day that got up to 89 degrees. That's why I'm thinking it may have been in transit.
