Anybody have a Royal Humidor?

Well, I decided that my desktop humi wasn't cutting the mustard anymore...not enough room! I looked around on eBay, Cheaphumidors.com, Tampa, etc. I figured that 100 count humi would be adequate, but also read that I would be well advised to buy bigger than I thought I needed. Well, today I came across the Royal Humidor from Thompson, and pulled the trigger. It's a 300 count floor model. Here's a link:

I know it's not the crème de la crème, however for $154 shipped it seemed impossible to beat. Of course, my own opinion will be formulated after it arrives and I get a chance to season it and try it out for a while. I just wondered if anybody here had one already, and had anything to say about them.

Well, it arrived in less than a week after order, and packaged perfectly (no damage). The craftsmanship is not impeccable, but certainly not the worst, either. It's a good looking box overall. It's been seasoned for 2 days, and stocked. Although the paperwork that came with it said the hygrometer had been calibrated, it does not agree with my wally world digital - which I salt tested. The RH seems to be steady thus far - I'll post pics in the next day or so.

Looks nice, and for that price, I don't see how you can go wrong. What kind of humidification system does it have?

It's got 4 of the plastic enclosed spongie type humifiers in it - you can see two in the 2nd picture. It's still keeping steady RH...so far, so good. I'm using both my digital hygrometer along the the analog one that came with the humi for a while until I tweak and trust the analog one.

There's a 2nd tray under the one you can see, and the lower compartment is pretty huge with movable separators that house the other two humidifiers. The drawer pulls are a complete fake - it's just one big box.

...and yes - those are Anejos on the far left! :D

Nice purchase. Good idea to go with the 300 over the 100, but it's still not big enough. :p It's only a matter of time till you go and purchase the largest cooler you can find. :D

I wouldn't ever depend on the analog hygro. Even when calibrated it won't be as accurate as your digital. Either leave it in because it looks good or just take it out and stick with the digi. And also you may want to eventually consider tossing the foam humidifiers and pick up some beads from viper. They are so much easier to use and low maintenance.

Once again good purchase on the humi.

Looks nice. I have one real similar to that style, but there are actually two drawers on it. Nice for storing stuff, but they don't seal well enough for any kind of cigar storage. Sucks in that respect; I can't fit enough in it!

Very nice Jay. If you hang around here long enough and turn into a whore like the rest of us......... You'll outgrow that thing in no time.

Nice humi. For all the grief Thompson takes i have found that the five..yes five......humidors i have had from them over the years have been solid performers and I have never had a complaint. I have a 150ct to my left at this very moment and it looks very nice sitting there full of PC's for the drive home. It is also currently holding up my 1/2 size replica of the "leg lamp" from the movie "A Christmas Story".

It's indescribably beautiful......
