Anybody ever smoke Candelas?

I have not seen or heard anyone talk about Candela or Claro wrapper cigars and no cigar shop I have been in sells them. Although, a friend of mine gave me a Graycliff Emerald Robusto the other day and I actually quite enjoyed it. It was not like any other cigar I have ever tried but it was very tasty. I then remembered that I had some AF 858 Double Claros in my stash and tried that the next night. It wasn't as good as the Graycliff but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't know if I will be rushing off to buy any boxes but I do think some 5 packs are in order. These will be good for a change of pace every now and again.

What do you all think of them?

I enjoy the occasional Candela. Great 5ers. Makes a good switch every so often. I'd love to try the Greycliffe Emerald, but alas, non are to be found in the Pacific (yet, at least...)

-K-

I have a few Astral Candelas in my stash, and they are ok...nothing special.

I just bought a box of the 858's and have some Fuente Churchill's and a couple of Don Thomas. While they are not near the top in terms of favorite smoke, they have an interesting tea quality flavor that makes them the right choice for cetain occasions.

...recently smoked a Don Thomas candela that I got in a sampler from Famous Smoke. I remember thinking it was "OK" but nothing that really blew me away. A buddy had a box of Astral's and he enjoyed them, but didn't run out and buy another box when they were gone.

Personal preferences probably apply here more than anything; the few I've had didn't change my world.....

My $00.02 - YMMV.....B.B.S.

tastes like grass...I smoked 1 greycliff emerald and it reminded me of little league

Back when I first started smoking around 1970 a great number of cigars out in the market were candela wrappers. Also for decades before candela was the wrapper of choice in the U.S.

About the only candela wrapped cigar I enjoy now are the La Gloria Cubana candelas. Very tasty and they don't have the grassy taste that most of the other candelas in the market have.

Candelas remind me of when I was a kid too. They were the 1st kind of cigars I ever smoked. I had an uncle that smoked them and my little brother and I stole a box out of his suitcase when I was about 10.

I've liked em since I started smoking, and Shadow makes a very good point.

I agree with the tea-like qualities, and I personally like the Don Tomas candelas a lot, and still have yet to try the LGC Candelas.

Better put 'em on my wish list!

My first and only Candela was Iguanna Robusto. Very light smoke good for the A.M. The best part of the cigar is the Candela wrapper and the filler fair. Flavor was one sided.

I would not mind trying a premium candela cigar.

I have never smoked a true candela, but I did have to mow the lawn alot when I was a kid; I figure it's about the same thing.

I did smoke teh Felipe Gregorio Tres Capas which has candela in the wrapper. It was f'ing aweful...

The LGC candelas are the top of the list, IMO. They are supposed to be available exclusively at Thompson's, although I know that Bill claims to have rustled some up somewheres else. :D

The Camachos that were available for St Patty's Day were very good (SLR blend with a "neon green" wrapper). The Indian Tabacs available at cbid, while not in the same class as the other two, are a good smoke.

I want to get some of the LGC Candelas but Thompson has some BS about my billing address having to match my shipping address which has to match the address on my DL. They called me and woke me up and tried to explain this to me and I just told them that they were crazy and that they just lost a good customer and then hung up on them. I have no tolerance for BS like that. No other place I order cigars from has a problem with it, and there are plenty of those other places. Just none of them, that I know of, carry such a broad selection of candelas.
