Even though we still have a master bath renovation to get through, it finally feels like I've really made a dent in the project list. This weekend, I finished the garage cabinet project...

It took a bit longer than planned because this place was built back in the "good old days" when they used nails to put up drywall instead of screws. It was floating off of the studs about ¼" in places and this had caused the joints to crack. So, I drove a bunch of screws, re-taped and mudded, and threw on a coat of primer.
After that, I replaced the diagonal shelf braces with standards and brackets, then moved the fridge and freezer next to the door. Then came the fun of assembling the cabinets...all nine of 'em, counting another tall one, not pictured. At least the wall cabinets weren't too hard to put up, what with their spiffy hangers.
The work surface we bought turned out to be a project within a project. It was originally a plain piece of heavy 1" particle board. Since I wanted to use this space as a staging area for smoking and for vacuum sealing afterwards, I decided to add a backsplash and laminate the whole thing in white Formica. I think it turned out pretty nicely and I even got to use my new biscuit joiner.
Now I just have to make the rest of the garage look as nice. Oh...and my dog Kroger was absolutely no help at all. The after-project cigar? A Short Story, since it was late in the evening and I was tired.
