My anniversary has crept up on me, so I figure it's contest time! In the spirit of the BOTL In Arms pass, here's a firearm identification contest. The winner gets a fiver of decent sticks. It should be doable for anyone with some knowledge of bolt-action rifles or moderate google-fu. As usual, my pictures suck, so I captioned a couple of the major clues. If necessary, I'll post more pictures or clues, but I don't think it will be necessary. To win, you must identify the following:
1. Model
2. Caliber
3. Manufacturer
4. What makes this a little different/swanky than others of its model?

This is done, with Mad Monk the winner. Thanks to CP for a great year!

No.4 MK1

This one still has brass buttplate?

This one still has brass buttplate?

That's a Lee Enfield
.303 Cal.
manufacturer was Royal Small Arms Factory
Gonna guess it is the longer MLE version.

1 and 2 correct, but again, 3 and 4 are not. If you can get 3, you'll probably get 4.

The only differance I can think of would be the ones made by Savage, and lent to the Brits, and Marked "U,S. Property".
I think the Stocks were differant, and possibly better.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
It is indeed made by Savage, an American company, and sent to the British as part of Lend-Lease. PM me your addy, sir!

1. Lee Enfield
2. .303 Cal.
3. James P. Lee
4. The rifle utilized a "cock-on-closing" bolt with rear locking lugs, the design of the action permitted easier and faster operation than similar German Mauser designs of the day. A new square-shaped rifling system which proved resistant to wear. Combining Lee's bolt-action with the Enfield barrel led to the production of the first Lee-Enfields in 1895. Designated .303 caliber, Rifle, Magazine, Lee-Enfield, the weapon was frequently referred to as the MLE (Magazine Lee-Enfield) or the "Long Lee" in reference to its barrel length.
