I just bought a couple from my B + M. I decided to smoke one. I took the cedar wrapper off and the were 3 spot that had a glue or sap substance on it. Last year I had a few that had mold under the cedar wrapper. This was not mold and I could not brush it off. The stick smoked fine but I am leaning to not buying these anymore till they get these issues corrected.

Sounds like sap, and yes the Fuentes have had problems with it before. I remember an original box of King B's that were covered in sap underneath the cedar. They should smoke fine, which yours did, but annoying nonetheless.

It's probably just spots of the pectin glue they use as a wrapper and band adhesive. It happens from time to time, although I do have to admit I see this with Fuentes more than any other brand. It's perfectly fine though and shouldn't impact the burn or flavor of the stick at all.

Did the sap improve the flavor of the King B's, Mike? :D

For some reason, almost every 55 I've ever smoked has had sap spots on it. I mean only a couple haven't had it on them. From 2007 to this years release. I am not sure why it tends to be on the 55s more than the other vitolas.

This is the first I'm hearing about it. Hope it's not the case on all of them.

I stand corrected. Only 2 from this years box.

Just smoked my first 55 (why not before now I don't know) at the shop today, and the cedar and band slid right off the cigar without a problem. Smoked perfectly...tasted fantastic.

So what's smokes better sap or paint varnish? :D

The only 55 that I have has no sap...Oh wait, it's an OR so it doesn't have cedar either..... :p :p

I've never had sap spots on a 55, but I've had them on other cigars with cedar wraps, it doesn't do a whole lot to the smoke, from what I can tell, though it does take away from the look of the cigar.

I was kinda pissed when I pulled the cedar off an Opus X that I had bought and it took a small piece of the wrapper with it.
