I got my newbie sampler last week and had left them in the ziploc bag I received them in. Yesterday I received my 65% RH Viper beads so I hydrated the beads to 75% and threw them in my tupperdore. I went to sleep with the humidity at a nice 60-65% and awoke today to humidity of 75%...I quickly burped it and let the humidity drop and thought nothing of it. I then went to check the RH again and saw with horror that one of my cigars had a black soft spot on it. I quickly took it out and started examining others. Some of them have tiny black spots, which aren't soft and am not sure if they were there before I got them. The last cigar I took out to examine has two small patches of green (flat mold, I suppose?).

Please let me know if I can do anything...I put them back into the ziploc bag except for the green and soft spot one.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Martin

Just found another with the top type of spot.

the green spot is a waterspot, ie. when the tobacco is handled, water contacted and changed it to the nice green... i've found no issues w/ any that i've had w/ that kind of damage, but ymmv. Beetle holes are usually pinhole sized?

This one had wrapper damage when I got it...split at the bottom/flaking...now I discovered this...

The green spot does indeed look like a water spot. The soft black patch though, I've never seen anything like it. Are you sure it's not a hole in the wrapper and you're looking onto the binder?

As for the small holes. Sometimes wrappers have small holes. Perfectly circular holes that go through the binder though, are a problem. You can test this by trying to see if a toothpick or pin will go into the cigar through the hole. If it does, then you need to do the tap test. Tap the foot of the cigar onto a piece of white paper. If fine, round or rice grain shaped dust falls out, you've got beetle damage.

Wilkey

I'm thinking the soft spot may be a drop of water or something that fell on it. Hopefully it will dry out. So should I put them back in the tupperdor or should I leave them in ziploc/plain air for now until they dry out a bit?

I'm confused with the 65% beads that got hydrated to 75%, then went to 60-60% then to 75%. That don't sound like Viper beads to me.
