Good morning all. Our flowerbeds and retaining walls have been invaded by chipmunks. We want these critters gone. So far we have invested in sonic ground stakes that emit a chatter resembling a warning sound to drive them away, some smelly stuff that is supposed to irritate their nose, we put out poison and the bucket of water with seeds trick to drown them. Can you think of other methods to get rid of these suckers? I figure I'm trying to give them the option to leave or die. It's in their hand... err paws.

Look into subject "bucket traps". I had good luck with them. They got into my house via the dryer vent, years ago.

Check Lowes, Bass Pro and Home Depot for the urine. They are listed as selling it. I've used red fox urine around here, it doesn't screw up your surrounding, but if you smell it, it does mess with your nose.

The urine should be available at a hunting supply or hardware store.

I'd try that.

May try a cat, but then you'll need a dog to get rid of cat, but then you'll need kids to feed the dog...aw hell a suppressed 22 is cheaper and quieter.

Geez, you guys are obsessed with urine. I currently have an army of despicable felines that keep chipmunks away but prior to the despicable felines we used a homemade spray of hot sauce and vinegar. Basically I just went to a dollar store bought a big bottle of cheap hot sauce and a big bottle of vinegar, mixed them together and sprayed the area every day for about a week. That worked...and it also kept all kinds of critters off of our plants. The vinegar obviously has a smell to it but I doubt that smell is as offensive as piss.

Was going to suggest cayanne pepper and vinegar. That should work. The pee would probably also work.

Squirrel launching is AWESOME!!!

I've asked them to leave, They don't listen very well. My kids doctor always told me that there is a difference between hearing and listening. that must hold true to chipmunks also

I've considered the rat trap but I fear I would get a bird.

I like the idea of hot sauce/cayenne peppers and vinegar

Now that you've named them, killing seems so..... well...... wrong. LOL

Personal motto is "only kill what you intend to eat". With a personal caveat, unless they are destroying your property or they are coyotes, raccoons, skunks or other vermin. There's got to be a more humane way, catch and release in the neighbor's property. LOL

My old journeyman would tell me, "you look but, don't see. You hear, but don't listen."

I would just reply, "uh... what?"
:D

They are digging up flowers, plants and generally being a nuisance. The Poison in their holes and the Barrel trap just started yesterday.

My favorite PETA video. Sort of NSFW but yet maybe ok, not sure. What's the message here? Shame on PETA for degrading women in their advertising....shame, shame shame. LOL

I'd avoid the poison, personally. If they die somewhere where they can stink up the place or if another animal gets the remains, it can just cause additional issues.
