So we have practice off tomorrow and a long weekend, kinda... Decided to break my cigar fast and burn a nice one.
Cigar name: Arturo Fuente King B
Vitola: 6" x 55
Wrapper: Ecuadorian "cloud-grown" rosado
Special Thanks to BFreebern for allowing me to smoke this fine cigar!
without further ado...
Pictures provided by my new Blackberry 8100 so forgive the picture quality!
The King B! Resting comfortably in my new ashtray that I got as a gift in vegas.
Accessories: My Xikar lighter and my Xikar cutter, thanks to secret santa!
So upon taking off the cedar, I was disappointed to see the sap that had accumulated on the surface of the wrapper due to the cedar sleeve... Something that all King B's seem to exhibit, but it later turned out to not matter.
Quick snip and gentle toasting... Pre-light draw was quite tight... maybe I didn't clip enough. I clipped it again to make sure. After a few seconds of flame...The King B seemed to not want to light... took me awhile to get it going but here I am puffing away happily:
My first impression was a little bit of spice... as it is always when I put any tobacco in my mouth. I wondered to myself how I would react since I hadn't had a cigar since New Years in Vegas. The smoke was very mild, and very sparse... Maybe I didn't properly light it? Some heavy puffing got the rhythm going. Flavors that came to mind were some spicy chocolate cream, some cinnamon.
First ashing:
After this I tried blowing some smoke through my nose... I then spent the next 2 minutes coughing and my eyes started to water! ... Nobody told me to blow slowly!! After recovering from that little episode I came up with more cinnamon, and out of nowhere was a very hospital-like smell, a strong medicinal aroma and it really stuck on my tongue for a little bit. Even more cinnamon, cloves, a little nutmeg.
The burn is going crazy at this point so I touch it up again with my lighter. I then pull off the band with no problems. 15 or so minutes later, out of nowhere, the King B goes out on me. A relight yields a terrible turn in flavor... At first there was no flavor but strong leathery tobacco. Plugged again so I poke some holes with my pocket knife. Fixes the draw but not the flavor. Kinda acrid, bitter, unsweetened and burnt coffee.
I'm confused... A knock at the door, and 15 of my drunk friends stumble in. I don't live on campus anymore so this is a rare event. Good thing they're with 12 very good looking and scantily clad girls so no complaints.
This cigar is done anyways... I'm left with an old metal taste... Rusty iron maybe? I think a mix between that and overcooked, burnt steak. Bleh.....
Overall? I'd say it was a decent cigar, 6.5/10. Tough burn, but some good flavors and a nice buzz. Not spectacular, but a decent cigar to start my stint in cigar reviewing, and the last cigar to smoke in awhile as the season officially started last Saturday. Hopefully I'll have more opportunities and reasons to smoke this season and DEFINITELY at nationals
Hope you all enjoy this review as much as I did writing it.
