Smoked one of these (my first) tonight. While I do not have the refined cigar taste of many here, I can say this is one damn tasty cigar. I like Maduro 8-5-8s but this Sun Grown blew me away. Loads of smoke, smooth draw, and very, very pleasant taste. Definitely will have to get more of these (if I can find them). With an MSRP of ~$6.00 it doesn't get better than this although the rarity (apparently only retailers who partcipated in Fuente's display contest can get them) makes them difficult to come across. None of the 3 retailers in my area qualify to recieve these fine smokes. :( So, if you have any laying around collecting dust, PM about a trade. :D

Bottom line - if you haven't ever tried one, do so. It is definitely worth it.

If you have not yet. Try the Don carlos line I think you will like them. The 858 is a great inexpensive cigar.

Have a Don Carlos #2 I will probably light up on Saturday when Scot (cigardawg) and I go down to Havana Connections in Richmond. If anyone lives in that area, we will be at the Short Pump store at ~10:00 am.

The AF Cuban Belicoso (only comes in SG if memory serves me correctly) is a very suitable replacement ... and much easier to find ;)

Agree!

The 8-5-8 SG, is indeed a GREAT smoke.

Came across a box at a great price about 6 months ago and have not seen another full box with a good price since then.

15 deep in the humi for better days ahead. :D

I ran across a box of these from the DR and picke done up. They are A Fuente gran reserva- aquired from a cigar vendor, sitting in his humidor. Unfortuantely he wants about $16 a stick- they have the wording FLOR FINA 8-5-8 on it, a whole box of them. I didnt see the letters SG but wonder if this is the same stick? (label is red/green with white letters). ???

8-5-8 Sun Growns are wrapped in cedar and have a black band at the foot.

The FLOR FINA are the sun growns. It's a shame that a retailer would mark them up like that but it's very possible he bought them way above msrp himself. One of my locals has just about every rare regular production cigar available for about 2-3X msrp. They are not an authorized dealer of most of them so I suspect they buy them from other dealers at msrp+ and mark them up from there. A couple of examples are PAN 26 #9 $50 and Opus X Super Beli $30 :0

All 8-5-8s are marked with Flor Fina. The sungrowns, like the rest of the SG line, have a red and black band. They also come cedar wrapped with a black band at the foot (like jingles said). Sounds like the ones you saw were either nats or mads, or were fake.
