Activator Solution?

I've looked around at other posts and none of them have seemed to answer my question. My first humidor should be arriving tomorrow ( ), and being the cheap person that I am, I didn't get activator solution with it. Can I just use distilled water, or will that do little to nothing? I'm sorry if this question has been asked a million times, but I couldn't seem to find an answer.

use the distilled water will be fine. and get yourself some beads...yeah u may think your too cheap for them but they are way worth it.
but to season take a shot glass full of DW and leave it in the center and let the box pull in the moisture. this does take some time however so expect not to put anything in the humidor for at least a couple days

I used the solution on my humidors when seasoning and every 6 months or so but I thought I remember reading in some posts here that it wasn't 100% necessary. So I can't really speak as to how well people have done without using it.

Try searching for 50/50 or charging something.

EDIT: If you do decide to get beads and also use the solution, don't put the solution on the beads.... use distilled water and only distilled for the beads.

I've seasoned and I haven't seasoned and have not noticed a difference and I've had a couple unseasoned for at least a year. But the beads are the way to go, I have been really impressed with the tube I got from Heartfelt.

Don't know much about the seasoning part, but he's right. I'm pretty cheap, too, and it kind of hurt me to buy beads. But in the end, they're great! So yeah, get some from cigarmony or from heartfeltindustries.com

Question, though, what's so special about activator solution?

That's distilled water and no, that's not all you do, you have to put it in your humidor :laugh: Get a 65% RH Puck and be careful never to saturate the Puck, leave 30%
for absorption. Also, ensure you have a good digital hygrometer.
