I was thinking, should I or should I not? I saw the unopened box of these beauties in my coolidor. After much thought, I relented. I took my pocket knife and scored the the seals at the right places. Almost ceremoniously, I slid the top and inhaled deep to get the essence of the aroma that had been trapped since ABR 2004. It was heavenly. Carefully, I took out the cedar cover and the paper that separated me from these wonderful cigars. A sight to be behold, neatly lined up and handsomely ordered. The color, the band no doubt commanded attention to the details of packing.
I carefully took two and I replaced everything back in the coolidor. The two sacrificial specimens laid nicely on top of my desk but only for a few moments. I placed one in my desktop humi and the other---the chosen one--went in my otter box.
I then drove to a local tobaconist that has plush leather chairs, sofas and a full selections of cigars and pipes. I decided to take the band off at the parking lot as to not draw any unnecessary attention. I was wearing a polarized sunglasses on a bright sunny day, when I noticed a certain sheen on the cigar. I looked closely. Lo and behold, oily opaquish "droplets" peppered the sitck top to bottom. It looked liked the cigar was a the verge of trying to "sweat". Could it be the making of plume???? I tried to wipe it off gently but it wouldn't come off lest I want to ruin the wrapper.
I went to the store and took my spot at one end of the leather sofa. This was about 10 minutes before Tiger Woods was to tee off. I made a perfect cut and took in a draw. It was perfect and cedar flavors tickled my tongue! I tried very hard not to start chomping on the stick as it was tasting delicious. After toasting the foot, I lit it up and let it settle. The flavors started dancing around. I was swishing the smoke around my tongue to pure smoking enjoyment. Cedar woody notes prevailed but citrus and spice were hinted at the finish. The spice was not pepper but something that made my tongue feel a little tingly. The smoke was thick white and the aroma was very pleasant.
The burn was razor sharp until the last 1.5 inches where I had to touch up. The second half of the smoke, I noted a slight sweetness to the finish and the cedar notes muted down just a little. The draw was easy but not loose. I had a constant smile in my face as I watch the U.S. Open play out. I was in the zone and a very deep in the zone.
Hands down, this is the best Siglo VI I have had (considering I been through more than a dozen) and probably this is up there in my top ten ever!
Thank you for letting me share my Father's Day smoke. I hope you all had a very nice smoke on this special day!
Best,
Joe
