Cigar: Carlos Torano Virtuoso lancero
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Colorado Maduro
Filler: Nicaraguan and Honduran
Tonight I donned my platform shoes, leisure suit, fur coat, sunglasses, hat with feathers, and my cane to review this "pimp" stick. I received this stick from a very generous BOTL who picked this up at the RTDA show.
Appearance: This cigar was well constructed, with no apparent veins, and a beautiful dark maduro wrapper.
I clipped the head with my xikar, and put flame to it. The first few puffs were a very nice dark chocolate flavor, with a light cedary undertone. This cigar started out pretty mild strength, but with plenty of flavor. The draw was medium-tight but it still produced a good amount of smoke.
As I progressed through this cigar the chocolate slightly faded and it developed a nice flavor of strong coffee. It also had a little bit of an earthy flavor. It also picked up in strength settling into a medium strength for the remainder of the cigar.
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this cigar since this is the first Carlos Torano I have smoked, and I'm still learning to appreciate lanceros. This was a nice cigar, that is a great change of pace from the fuller strength, peppery cigars I smoke most of the time. I don't have much info on this cigar, but I'm hoping when it's released, it is an affordable alternative in the lancero lineup. Using Wilkey's test from another thread:
Is this a good $5-6 cigar? Definitely yes
Is this a good $6-8 cigar? Probably so
Is this a good $9+ stick? Maybe on occassion if you really like lanceros and want a change of pace
