O.K. So I've chatted with a bunch of you guys on line, but never had the chance to put a face with a name (and some pretty crazy stage names we all see to have) until today.

I had the pleasure of meeting a true BOTL and a great member of this board... the one, the only... >>>insert Oscar music here<<< CHEWBACCO!

That's right! In beautiful downtown Pasadena we met up for a lunch at some burger joint on Colorado Ave and then decended onto an unsuspecting local B&M for a mid-afternoon smoke break.

We browsed the walk-in looking for a victim to fall under fire when I popped the question... "Dude, where's the Opus?" Wookies are known for their short tempers and when Chewbacco echoed my question with a loud ROAR... the merchant quickly ushered us over to his secret stash tucked away in a private locker...

I could see the smile on Chewbacco's face broaden as we were presented with two fat Super Belicoso OpusX sticks. Ah... perfect choice!

This was my first Opus X cigar (what I have I've been hoarding for some foolish reason... I think I've been overly paranoid about the 'age' factor). Anyway... the cigars were cut and me and 'Bacco slipped into a couple leather lounge chairs and a comfortable tobacco-induced nicotine coma. WOW! What a fantastic cigar.

Chewbacco commented on the strength and sweetness of the tobacco. I could taste it too. A taste that seemed like it was created by aging the tobacco in cognac barrels or something? The Spice taste was incredible and soooooo smooth. Great rich flavor to start and then a consistent mellow tobacco flavor with a nice smooth finish. Everything I could have anticipated in my first Opus X experience.

I could see in the Wookie's eyes that the cigar was having a positive effect. The conversation flowed and flowed... some laughs about 'melt-downs' (including my own   ) and a great feeling of comraderie as we shared, live, a smoking experience.

I can't say that I didn't feel a little 'heady' myself from this Opus. Man... good thing I ate a burger before I lit up.   And although I may have come a little unraveled by the nicotine... the constuction of the Super Belicoso was superb. A beautiful wrapper, rosado I think? The draw was a tad tight for me, but about halfway through it opened right up. My hand was a little shaky when I lit the thing so I had a minor burn issue... Chewbacco made me fix it. I wasn't about to argue... when a Wookie barks you obey.

Thanks CP! It was a pleasure to meet Darrick today. And hopefully there'll be more of these mini-HERFs with some of you other CPers. And this, I think, is what it's all about... good times. :D

Yes, it's always great meeting new faces.

We had a good time talking about CP, life, experiences, (and of course) cigars!

We did pay an arm and half a leg for the Opus X, but it was in good company...it made up for the price.

Now if we can only get other CP'ers to come out from their Internet cell to join us for some HERF'ing!

I think the SoCal'ers have some catching-up to do!

I did take some time off of work to have a smoke (the damn Opus X Super Belicoso took a while to smoke...at least 1.5 hours). That thing made me so weak, I still feel it!
Good times.

Nice hanging with you Seadub!
This makes 2 mini-HERFs in 4 days!

EDIT: The cigar shop we went to was Cigars By Chivas. Kinda pricey (I guess it should be expected, since it's in Old Pasadena). They also require you to spend at least $10 to smoke in the lounge area. Coffee and water was free though

Thanks for the post! It sounds like you guys had a great time. The anticipation always builds when I read about the Opus X's. I am calmly--sort of anyway--waiting for my local B&M to get a fresh batch of Opus' so I too can enjoy my first Opus experience. Glad you enjoyed it!

Chewie is good people, I hope to have the honor of Herfing with him some day soon.

Sounds like you guys had a great time. You are right, seadub, there's nothing better than meeting up and smoking with a good BOTL. And if you travel at all, you'll soon find out that there are usually one or more BOTLs anywhere you go.

Hopefully, you can make it to the CP Herf in May!

Man! I can't wait till May!! I wish I travelled a bit more so I could meet up with other BOTLs more often. Sounds like it was an awesome time!

I guess its like trying a new cigar. I'm still quite new to the hobby and have yet to share a smoke with anyone. CigarDawg will be in town in about 2 weeks and I'm really looking forward to it. May in Vegas is a whole nother opportunity for sensory overload!

Just remember... if any of you come to Germany, the first liter of beer is on me

I'm like Nullsmurf, I've never smoked a cigar in the company of another cigar smoker. It would be an experience in and of itself, I think.

Wow. Funny, I got ito the hoddy as a social thing, and some of the best times I have had have been sharing cigars with others. Consider this a personal invitation to either of you (or any BOTL) that is passing through or near me to come over and light one up together.
Smoking with someone who shares the passion, IMHO, only enhances the experience.
