Well, I had two pretty nice cigars recently, and I haven't done a review in a while, so here are two of them.
First off, I had a Davidoff 1000. I was in the mood for a little cigar, and I found this one over at the other shop in town. (Yeah I know, I'm a traitor) I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. The draw was a little firm, but that was to be expected from a cigar of this size (4 5/8 x 38). What this stick lacked in size, it more than made up for in flavor. Very rich leathery smoke, with cedar notes, and a subtle spice in the background. Finish went on for almost a full minute. It only got better as I smoked it. I'd highly recommend this stick if you don't have a lot of time, but still want a great smoke. I'd give it a 91 on the cA scale.
Today, I had a Zino Platinum Scepter Series Bullet. It was an up-and-down experience for me. First off, it's a gorgeous little perfecto. Smooth, silky wrapper with very little veins. However, it started off with a very firm draw. It was like sucking a golf ball through a garden hose. It went on that way for the first 1/3 of the cigar, and I almost gave up on it. But boy am I glad I didn't. The draw came around when I got to the "fat" part in the middle, and that's where the flavor picked up. It was a light, almost wheaty smoke. The kicker was about 2 seconds after exhaling the smoke, the spice really starts to hit the palate. This cigar had a looooong finish. The spice got more intense as it burned further down. It began to get hot and soft, but it never got harsh on me. This one ended up being a real finger nubber.
The initial burn problems only permit me to give this one an 88. I don't know if I'd buy another one, but I'd probably snatch one out of a pass if I got the chance.
