I have done searches on this site for 3 weeks now. And I need some real world help. I will give you my scenario:

I just purchased a new humidor: I did a salt test with the analog hygrometer and got it to 75% perfect. I then took the hygrometer and put it in the humidor with a shot glass of distilled water. It has been like this for 4 weeks. The temp never came down under 80%.

So then I go to the local cigar shop and the guy told me to use these crystals that do exactly what the beads do. I put in two tubes of the crystals with the shot glass still in the humidor. Now it has been two weeks and the temp says 85% now.

I do not have any cigars in the humidor because I don't want them to split at such a high temp.

What should I do? I am dying to get this humidor under control and on a correct temp, so I can start filling it up with smokes.

The humidor I am using is This is my Humidor

Please feel free to respond to me here and also use my email address as well. Thanks.

I need help fast, this is driving me crazy.

% is not for temperature, maybe you're confusing it with Humidity?

Take the beads/crystals out, leave the hygro in and see what happens.

If the shot glass full of water is still in there, the first thing you need to do is get it out. Like Brandon said, I think you have the temp/humidity confused.

First, take the shot glass out, (like Jonesy pointed out) I would get a digital temp / hygrometer to confirm your RH% and temp...if it is indeed 85% RH (relative humidity), then leave the humidor open for a few hours to allow some humidity to escape. If you are confusing temp and humidity, then put your humidor in a cooler spot in the house....like a basement, in a closet on the floor, etc. Hope this helps, let us know how you make out.

Everyone has given good advice. Get a digital, calibrate it, and put it in the humidor. Take everything else out. Wait a couple hours and see what it reads. From there, buy some beads. I suggest www.heartfeltindustries.com Moisturize the beads about half way, leaving the other half to absorb the excess humidity. Within a couple days the beads should even everything out.

I really appreciate everyones quick response and great ideas.

I must sound like an idiot with the temp comment. I was talking about humidity.
I will take everything everyone said and see how this works.

thanks to everyonw who responded.
