Specimen - 601 La Punta
Size: 5.5 x 48/52
Origin - Nicaragua

So I picked up a box of these quite new sticks from United Tobacco/Pepin Garcia. These sticks look absolutely gorgeous, so I couldn't resist going for a box right out of the gates. Details aren't fully known (to me anyway) about the blend of these babies, but they are definitely different than the other 601 Red Labels...in a phenomenal way, with the wrapper being the most notable at first glance.

Select the stick, select the beer to accompany it, this time it being an absolutely outstanding Trappist creation from the good Brothers of Orval

Put on some music to go along, this occasion seeming to call for "Jazz" by Tony Bennet. Get the stick ready for the ritual

Clip and pre-light draw is absolutely flawless. Just holding this baby, damn it is made with love and feels so nice. Toast, torch and the first draws are amazing. Bountiful smoke too. The tastes are initially slightly sweet, deep, dark cocoa flavors permeating. This holds for about the first quarter of the smoke, and when you're lulled into a false sense of security that this cigar is not firmly in the full-bodied spectrum, you then realize the truth about the old-adage regarding "assuming."

A very nice ash was held, which, considering my smoking buddy was present, I knocked off before its time

As I hinted at, the cigar then really begins to unfold. Dynamic flavors of earth, wood, leather and spice/pepper begin to kick up. DAMN this is a mighty fine cigar. I want to buy up all boxes of this possible. This is a relatively young creation as the box-code shown in the pic above demonstrates...imagine them in three, six, twelve months from now...I can hardly wait, if I can muster the patience. These are outstanding now. Between the beer and this stick, I am in heaven. I start to feel great, the first time in a while a Pepin stick has truly made me feel this way. It's not flat-out, balls-to-the-wall, knock you on your ass, but it is damn potent and tasty. I had this as a pre-dinner smoke and I would do so over and over and over again, along with after dinner, before bed, what have you. It's damn fine. Even my smoking buddy was feeling its effects from just smelling it

Brothers/sisters, definitely pick this up when you come across them. They will absolutely deliver everything we've come to adore about this noble pursuit. And for you fellow Pepin lovers out there, you will be shown once more just why you are one. Can't recommend this stick highly enough.

Very nice review MC. I have will definitely put this stick on my to-do list. BTW, the pup is growing like a weed. Thanks for the review the pictures turned out great.

Como siempre gracias por compartir con nosotros, great looking smoke and company too. Always looking forward to your next review.

I can't get enough of the 601 red, DPG Blue, Black, JJ, the Tat line, etc. Honestly, I don't know why I bother buying anything else.

Great review, I'll keep an eye out. I hadn't even heard of these.

Thanks MC,

Mick

Roger that...I'm amazed at how big he's gotten. Still a little guy, but he's grown for damn sure.
