I had a smoked out birthday party last saturday and it included taking breakfast outside while smoking one of Geldor's samples from the Newbie Sampler, and another 5-6 throughout the rest of the day (I also smoked 6 racks of ribs, 2 boston butts and 30 brats). When my first guest arrived, he brought 2 5 Vegas Limitada 06's. The outside looked gorgeous and I really thought it was going to be great (judged a book by it's cover). It was about 6", ring at 50 or so, torpedo with a slight box press which I guess is Belicoso, but it was very slight and the end was completely round. The cigar felt kind of soft though.
We cut and lit it and waited. I find it takes a few puffs to get anything out of a cigar. My buddy immediately said he didn't like it.
Pulling the info from CI, it's a sungrown ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper harvested in 2000 and it's supposed to be deep brown to red. Copying and pasting from CI:
"The filler blend is complex, sporting well-aged tobaccos from Brazil and Nicaragua, plus Dominican-grown Piloto Cubano long-fillers, then bound with a Cuban-seed binder. Each of these tobaccos has been aging since 2001. 5 Vegas Limitada burns slow, cool and true, and the aged recipe delivers an array of soothing flavors - it’s medium in body, creamy and smooth from foot to nub with slight hints of pepper."
I got none of this. It was an extremely loose and tasteless draw. I almost felt like I could have wrapped leaves from the forest behind my house and achieved the same smoke that this was. It seems like this is supposed to be a really great cigar too, so I'm convinced I got a dud. I would just like to know what others' experiences are with it. I certainly got no complex or soothing smoke and 0 pepper. Could this be because I had wrecked my palate with a bunch of other more full bodied stoges before I smoked this? Or could this really be a dud. The loose draw, soft feel and poor box press tell me it's a dud. What do you guys think?
Sorry for the poor review. I would have been able to give a lot more information right after I smoked it, I'm a little at a loss right now.
