Hi all - not really trying to write a review, because my palate probably wouldn't produce anything useful to everyone here, but I'm just curious how everyone likes this line - it seems like most of the reviews here are a little negative, but then CI has nothing but the best things to say.

I went up to the roof (live in an SF apartment) tonight for a smoke, and had a Series A - I thought it was pretty good. In spite of the wind, the construction was great - ashed three times only, and no uneven burn in spite of the gusts. It started off pretty mild and evolved to what for me is a pretty leathery taste - to be honest, almost chemical, and it didn't change much after the first 1/3 of the smoke. I guess overall I would say the construction and burn was excellent, and the taste was okay but a little one dimensional.

It seems like most of the posts around here are anti-5 Vegas, but I thought it was not too bad for a cheap smoke. I probably wouldn't buy it again, but I think I'll enjoy smoking the rest all the same. :)

I like them enough to buy boxes of them... not everyone here hates them either.

Smoke what you like, not what others say you should like.

These cigars IMO are good cheep smokes. They aren’t great while not being a complete rocket either.

I agree with Wurm, smoke what you like. Can't go wrong with that ;)

I have enjoyed the Series 'A' cigars that I have smoked. Their wrapper is dark and beautiful. I have enjoyed the Gold label as well. :)

And heed the words from above. The only person who can know what YOU will like is YOU. No one can make that determination for you. Getting suggestions or recommendations is fine. But it boils down to trying each cigar that you are interested in, yourself.

Ok, that's a review right there, I don't care what you call it. I'm sorry but you just wrote review and thanks for it. ;)

Reminds me of a Backwwods review where the guy hit on his sister-in-law before it, fell off the roof of his trailer during it, and combined it with beef jerky, I think! And that's a review, too! :p

I have a 5er of these. The two I have smoked had a great flavor. They had gotten a bit off taste near the end. I believe my humidity was too high and that is the reason for that.

I had gotten them fairly cheap off Cbid. Nice looking stick for $2.50!! I'd buy them again.

The 5 Vegas line I think has always been controversial. First time I tried them was when I won two boxes on cigarbid.com. It was the regular series and I will say this: first impression was yuk, but over time they settled down and a lot of that taste you are trying to describe (I would call amonia) wears off. These cigars are best for exactly what you described: Outdoors. Until I finished my two boxes, I used to smoke these on the golf course. I cannot in good conscience smoke a very top tier cigar while hacking at balls, but this one is perfect for that Saturday golf game!

I noticed CI was really big on these, too. Then I realized they're the only place that carries them.

I've never had the "A" series, but I really like the classics for the money.
