Here they are.

I always enjoy seeing who they end up choosing in a bunch of the styles. American Style Light Lager is a little bit of a laugh of course. This year Old Milwaukee took it, with Naty Light coming in third. There are also a few styles I had never heard of. They have American Pale Ale and American IPA, but they also have American Strong Pale Ale. I also did not know that there was an American Sour Style.

Anyway good for a look

Wow .. interesting too see some of the winners. Half of those beers I have never seen or heard of.

Nice to see USA breweries are extremely dominant.

One of our local brew pubs won (when they had it in season it was an exceptional beer)
Category 87: American-Style Stout (20 Entries)
Gold Terminal Stout
Rock Bottom Brewery - Chicago
Chicago, Illinois

Nice 2 see Three Floyds take away 2 awards.

Category 84: Imperial or Double Red Ale (22 Entries) (one of my fave FFF beer)
Gold Behemoth
Three Floyds Brewing Co.
Munster, Indiana

Category 82: Imperial or Double India Pale Ale (39 Entries)
Bronze Dread Naught
Three Floyds Brewing Co.
Munster, Indiana

Other than Sam Adams, are any of those American winners able to pass the German Purity laws, established in the 16th century. As far as I know S. A. is the only one.

Doc.

The only one that I drink on a regular basis that made the list of winners was Michelob Lager; that along with Michelob Amber Bock are two of my favorite American beers.

Does this mean I can finally watch TV without seeing that dumbass Miller Lite commerical where they keep holding their beer bottles up?

Besides the big guys like Pabst, Blue Moon (Coors), Anheuser-Busch, Miller, etc...most craft breweries in the U.S do pass those purity laws. I listen to a few podcasts that sit down with several Craft and Micro brewers in america and it is interesting to hear just how basic their processes are. Companies like Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada are special though, because they have found the brand power to be able to afford to follow those purity laws on a mass produced scale.

Still, there are plenty of styles that require the brewer to go outside the purity laws, and to say that those are any less of a beer than a beer that consists of only grain, hops, and yeast IMHO doesnt make sense. Dubbels and Tripels are big, bold and delicious. Many of those use candied sugars for some of the sweetness and body as well as more abv. I can't see that making it any less of a great beer.

That Brown's Whiskey Porter sounds excellent...anyone near Troy, NY that could pick me up a sixer? :whistling:

Category 6: Fruit and Vegetable Beer (70 Entries)

Bronze Alaskan Jalapeno Imperial IPA
Alaskan Brewing Co.
Juneau, Alaska

That sounds like a palate crusher!

My favorite beer name:

Category 63: Oatmeal Stout (35 Entries)

Bronze Velvet Merkin
Firestone Walker Co.
Paso Robles, California
