Torano Reserva Selecta Robusto

A very beautifully wrapped and constructed cigar. The wrapper was a smooth natural wrapper with no veins or even imperfections. The aroma was fresh and pleasant.

I punch it and fire it up. The draw was extremelly smooth... almost too easy. I think as a result, the initial flavors were strong but bitter. Tasted like burnt fresh grass. But... after a couple of smoother, slower puffs (to get acclaimated to the draw), the flavors settled down. It lived up to a very typical Torano flavor. From my personal experience, it's best described as a smattering of vegetation. A little grassy, even hints of grain (like wheat). It's not exactly my cup of tea, but by no means bad.

The burn was smooth and rather even. It was a very smoky cigar... which I really like. Nothing really outstanding about this one, but it was definitely better than the other Torano's I've had.

Overall score: 84 of 100.

Arturo Fuente Anejo #55 Original Release

I've been waiting for a few months to smoke this one. I decided I was tired of waiting. :D This was without a doubt... a treat. The wrapper was an extraordinary maduro. The construction was not as tight as I would expect from this cigar, but it was still quite solid. It just had a few minor soft spots. The aroma was rich and deep bodied. I could smell its potential.

I clip the end and test the draw. It was a bit on the tight side, but workable. I fire it up and the initial flavor was as expected... TASTY. This was the first cigar I ever tasted a bit of sweet toast. As it continued, the maduro tastes really began to exert themselves. Each puff was better than the previous and there was always a little something new to look forward to.

The burn was exceptionally even all the way down the cigar. The ash color was disappointing... grey, with dark spackles. I thought it would burn much more cleanly. However, the ash held like a champ. In fact, I didn't have to ash it until the very end, which was past the band.

By far, the tastiest Fuente (or N/C) for that matter. I was expecting a phenomenal cigar... and it exceeded my expectations.

Overall: 93 of 100.

"N/C" -- sheesh, phishy is corrupted. It's a cigar, man! heh

Anyway, I agree, the Añejo's are really nice.

Its just easier to clarify my point with "N/C" than to get overly verbose with it. :D

Next up... Anejo 77.

It's even easier to say "my favorite cigar" or "one of my favorite cigars" -- damn elitists... ;)

Nice reviews Michael. I've got an original release Anejo I've been sitting on for a while myself. I haven't been real excited to fire it up since the '03 Sharks I've had haven't been all that great but I've heard the original release is a whole different story.
