After reading some of the commentary here about the Padron 1964's I decided I needed to try some. I jumped in and bought a 1964 and a 1926 sampler. The order process took about 2 weeks so when they arrived last night, I HAD TO HAVE ONE! When I clipped it, the wrapper on the cap came apart (to me a sign of a dry cigar). I decided to go ahead and smoke it anyway. For the 1st half it smoked very dry, but the second half, althought there wasn't anything remarkable to praise about the stick, I did get some hints of flavor that probably will be enhanced after the cigars rest for a few weeks. I have not given up on them, I see promise, but for this time only, I certainly have smoked better. I know everyone has different tastes, but what RH% do you guys feel these store best at? Thanks

Your biggest mistake (and one all of has made) was not putting them into your humidor to rest... if it had of had a week or two to adjust to the proper humidity you wouldn't have been smoking a dry cigar.

Speaking of which... sounds like whoever you ordered from has issues.

Don't give up on them based on this one sampler. However, the '000 Padrons are a better value and are damn fine.

Edit: I forgot to mention to watch for CPass Retailerss in the Retailer Forum. Get cigars in good condition at a good price, more often than not.

Hard to tell without seeing it, but of course cutting too much off the end will cause the wrapper to unravel, as well.

My Padron's live at 65% and smoke wonderfully, be they the x000 series, 64's, 26's 80ths, or whatever.

Sounds like you got the "bad apple" or your vendor didn't maintain the RH properly. I recommend you try again.....

I definitely like the '000 Padron's better than the '64's. Dollar for dollar - there's hardly anything better.

...and the '26 maduros are DAMN fine smokes!

I did buy from our forum.. Not holding him hostage though, I have smoked enough cigars over the years to know to let newly received cigars rest for a few weeks before smoking them. I just was anxious to try this particular stick and broke an unspoken rule. Shame on me.

Man that is terrible. I sure hope you can recover. I have never had a bad Padron, from the top of the line to the bottom of the line. I enjoyed a Padron Ambassador fresh out of the box last nigh and it was pretty darn good.

I think the Ambassador is their best smoke in the regular Padron line....the Londres too. Hard cigar to beat, unless you smoke a '64 or '26.

I love the Executive when I have the time to smoke such a large cigar.

There is nothing harder for me to do than get a new box of sticks in the mail and put them in the cooler untouched for a week to a month. Especially something I have never had and have been dying to try. I'll be interested to see what you have to say after they rest for a few weeks.

Someone that had a Padron and didn't like it, didn't have a Padron. :sign:

My first Padron was in 1997 and I thought it was too strong for me. Things have changed since then....

Exact reason why I use a punch cutter, greater margin for error. As most have eluded to, smoking a cigar that has been shipped in different climates and temperatures right away is a huge mistake. It really helps to have a humidor filled with enough smokes that you can always save new shipments for later (weeks if not months) because you have a nice stable of good smokes to fall back on.

OK, it has been well over a month now, and I have smoked a couple of "rested" Padrons. I have enjoyed the flavors a great deal. Both the "26" and the "64" are enjoyable smokes. I still am disappointed with the condition of the sticks that arrived at my door. It will be a while before I spend the money to try again. Darn shame.

Any smoke will taste better once the humidity stabilizes, but I've smoked sticks "out of the box" and can't recall the last time I had a blatent turd.

Not sure where you got yours from, but there are a bunch of vendors that post here that know how to store cigars. These are the guys that support us with great deals and fantastic service, and I choose to support them. Not hard to figure out; spend some time browsing the Retailer Forums and you'll see who the busy guys are....

My $00.02....B.B.S.

To touch on Isy's point, I smoked an ambassador once that was amazing. One of those smokes you never forget.

As far as Padrons go, my personal experience was that the first year or two of trying them, I just wasn't getting much out of them.
I was the type of smoker who smoked the same few lines of cigars for many years.
When I first branched out to other smokes, I really didnt get a whole lot of enjoyment from some of the popular brands.
I would say that even though I had smoked thousands of cigars, my palate had not really "developed".
Now, Padron is my absolute favorite smoke.
I guess my point is, don't give up on them too fast, and as your horizons expand, so will your palate, and it's ability to "taste" characteristics in less familiar brands.

Which of the 2000-7000 series sticks are great smokes? I think I would like to try some that are a little easier on the hip pocket. As I said earlier in this thread, I did buy from a retailer here after reading that forum for a period of time. I just believe I was very unfortunate. My sticks, when I received them, were drier than any I have ever purchased in over 30 years of smoking cigars. The wrapper was broken on several, in several places. The binder seemed ok, but the wrap was terrible. The RH I keep my sticks at is 69.5%. The month in the humi really helped, but no time in the humi repairs damaged cigars. Live and learn. Thanks in advance for your opinions on the xxx series.

If you bought from any retailer that sells here on CP, did you contact him to see what he had to say? I'd be extremely surprised to find any of the ones I know here on CP didn't tell you they wanted to make this right.

X2. I have received sticks that were in less than adequate smoking condition (cracks in the wrapper, major foot damage, etc.), the few times this happened the vendor (from CP) bent over backwards to make sure the damaged sticks were replaced.

Give the vendor a call, even though it has been over a month since your purchase.

Edit - grammar
