At the Havana Dreams Herf a very generous brother gifted me this lovely stick on the condition of a review.
Upon inspecting the plume covered stick I commented on how I was going to save it for a special occasion.
He said no, it was a perfect cigar to enjoy any old time.
So taking his heed I decided to put the stick to fire Friday.
So without further ado...

The white spots are plume.

I smoked it on a almost spring-like day on my roof.

The 7" x 47 Churchill was a muted tan that was slightly mottled.
I scored the end with a circumcision cut and the cap popped off.
The pre-light draw was a touch loose, it could have been slightly tighter, but I am not complaining!
The pre-light draw flavors was sweet, slightly floral and earthy.

I torched it up with my PB-207.
Ignition was successful and I was immediately rewarded with a explosion of coffee and nut flavors.
Exhaling through my nose I picked up some floral undertones.
It has bittersweet chocolate and cocoa flavors now with a hazelnut undertone.
This is one smooth stogie!
Elements of black cherry come out here and there almost teasing me.
Towards the end of the 1st third a flavor similar to a very dry red wine developed for a bit.

The 2nd third had flavors of coffee and burnt black cherry...
The burn has been razor sharp so far with no touchups neccesary.
The grey/black striated ash held on until almost the halfway point!
The cigar seemed to alternate between the coffee, black cherry and coffee, nuts.
Then the black cherry became very noticable that left a light peanut taste lingering in my mouth.
It then developed a hazelnut flavor.

The last third I was suprised by a touch of ammonia present.
Is it possible for a 21-22 year old cigar have ammonia present?
It was very faint and not unpleasant.
The nut and black cherry is still going strong.
The wrapper cracked and the burn went screwy at this point.
The cigar somehow corrected itself!
The ammonia is stronger now but doesn't come close to taking away my enjoyment of this stick.

Maybe I liked this smoke a bit... :whistling:

Smoking the nubby nub a slight menthol flavor comes out.

I have been nosing this cigar throughout trying to determine flavors and it is not harsh at all even though the flavors are so very full and intense!
Also the Cuban twang which I haven't seen anyone correctly describe (and I cannot either) is very prevelant in this lovely stick.

This stick was delicious to say the least and it left me with a very pleasant buzz.
It certainly was a lip and finger burner!
What a remarkable opportunity to smoke a stick older then some of our members here.
It will be a smoke hard to beat!
Thanks a million brother!

I smoked one of these on Super Bowl Sunday hoping it would lend a hand to the Bears. Well, the Bears upset me, but the cigar did not. Great review and dead on.

Great review of what sounds and looks like a fantastic vintage cigar. The nub speaks for itself, well done.

Really Rob... wet the end a little more and you could probably smoke it until it just disappears into the air

Great review!!! See you in May :D

Very nice review and I'm VERY jealous!

Very nice review and great pics, especially the last 2, maaaan that a nub! :D

Thanks guys!
My first review...
Hopefully not my last.
It certainly is a lot more fun to smoke then review...
It is also very frustrating trying to discern a flavor that you think you know but you just can't put it to words.
It puts into perspective how much work goes into guys who regularily do reviews.
So big props to them!

Jeff, the pool will likely be closed until May...
Steve, takes one to know one! :D
Chris, see you in May!

Nice review Rob!! Man oh man, some people go through their life without a chance to enjoy a 20+ yo cigar!!

That ash tray, is it cast iron??? Looks cool.

Not sure exactly what it is made out of...
Probably depleted uranium... :p
It was some swag from the Marlboro Ranch.

1985 Wow! Great review too

Asside from knowing when it was purchased. How do you know the date? I have the exact same cigar with the tube and all, but I'm clueless as to the date.

Generally it comes from having a full box and reading the date code on the bottom. Tubos themselves have no dates on them. Otherwise you're just trusting the word of who they came from as singles.

Glad to see you enjoyed the cigar and very glad to see you took my advice and did not wait for a special occasion. Ciagrs are meant to be smoked.

Good review and spot on. In general it's a mild-to-medium cigar but still alot of discernable flavors.

nb: The box had a Cubatobacco stamp so it's circa 1985... tough to be more sure than that. And trust me - it's real ;)
