I've had a few of these that I have been saving for special occasions. While I was at a herf with a few of my brothers from here I decided what could be a better time to enjoy one of them. I always thought that they would be a good smoke due to how good it appeared these were taken care of. The wrappers and bands were in pristine condition. When we sat down to play some Texas Hold Em, I decided the time was right. I paired this cigar with a large cup of Mystereas French Press coffee. This awesome coffee proved to be an excellent combination. It was so good, I had to run out and buy my own French Press soon afterward.

Anyways, here is some information on the cigar:

Romeo Y Julieta Petit Corona
Wrapper: :whistling:
Binder: :whistling:
Filler: :whistling:
Box Date: 1970's

The construction was spot on with a very smooth, dark chocolate brown wrapper. Not a spot, or blemish could be found on this specimen. I gave it a quick score and lift cut with my Xikar. After a quick test draw I became worried that this cigar had been around all this time just for me to find out it was plugged. I cut a little off the head off to get perfect draw.

I toasted the foot and was rewarded with a very nice sweet tobacco smell. As soon as I set it on fire and took the very first draw, I was impressed with the flavor from this old cigar. The burn was perfect, and the consistent flavors remained constant throughout the entire cigar. The best that I can describe this would be to compare it to a creamy smoked almond flavor. It was fun to pass it around the poker table and watch the expressions on everyones face as they took a few puffs. All the way down to the nub this smoked cool and smooth. It got too hot to hold, but never too hot to smoke. I had to resort to a tooth pick to save my fingers after a while.

I thouroughly enjoyed this cigar, and I can't wait for the time being right to smoke another one. It was not the most complex smoke, although it did remain consistent throughout with a nice smooth creamy taste. I did notice a little bit of a black cherry flavor once or twice.

Nice review John! Looks like a very attrcative cigar despite its age.

Man oh man, if I only had one of those! I'd rule the WORLD!

Actually, I'd probably just smoke it. Thanks for the review John!

Thanks for the review (jealous!!)

I've had 10 year old cigars that were great, I couldn't imagine something from the seventies, it must have smoked like silk.

If I found a 30 year old cigar and was smoking with my friends that smoke, we'd be passing that thing around like a joint!!

Thanks for the review John.

I'm sure the stick would have tasted better if you had not passed it around :whistling: Hell, I'll pass my wife around before my cigar

What are you saying Brian? I had a nice aged Cohiba Esplendido that I passed over to John. Now if I had been smoking a Connie, I don't think I would have gotten to try the RyJ!

You neglected to mention where you got the 97 Esplendido from Brian. :whistling:

BTW, I still have one.

I have to agree with Brian, I can't imagine passing a cigar around. I may blow smoke in their face but hell if I'd let them put their mouth on my cigar. I don't know where thier mouths been.

(Note to self: invite Brian and wife to the next herf)

Nicely reviewed, John. What an attractive cigar. I've only tried a few cigars from that era but they are always eye opening. A very different smoking experience from contemporary Habanos, IMO.
