How much "extra room" do you have?

A buddy asked me a strange question the other day and it got me thinking. He asked me "Can you hold onto 3-4 boxes of cigars for me for a year". I told him I could probably figure it out if he needed me to, but it'll be hard to figure out how to get 4 boxes in there... Plus there is ZERO chance he will get them back without cigars missing..

I thought it would be interesting to see how much "extra space" you guys have without buying something or bringing an old humidor/cooler out of storage...

maybe 15%(ish)

Virtually none. I have a huge walk-in at my home in Utah but could only convert a small walk-in closet at our rental home in NoDak so hurting for space now. I really should sell a bunch but just don’t feel like it at the moment.

Good question! I have room for a few boxes but I am not into NC's and CC's are too expensive, so I will smoke what I have.

I could support a box or 2 in box format, and then another 2 boxes as singles, but I am about to add more drawers/shelves, space in and of itself is not the issue, it is places to put/store them

None. I’m already in large boveda bags just trying to get back to humidor storage.

It's an interesting exercise to think about how much room you have. I feel like I go through those gyrations every time I want to order new sticks.

Addressing the "buddy" scenario, if a buddy asked to put a few boxes away for a year+ I would advise him to break open his boxes, and get started smoking them right now. Waste not, want not. As a purely magnanimous gesture, I additionally volunteer to help.

Yes, yes, I'm a good friend. If I had a nickel for every time.

I made the mistake of telling him how great the Padron 000's series are with a year or more of age on them... He thinks keeping them in my humidor is the only way he won't touch them.. He's forgetting that puts them in MY reach...

You already said “without pressing an old coolidor into use”. My coolidor sticks had al cycled into my wineador by last year. This year I discovered the wonder of tupperdores and I just bought a couple hundred sticks and got them into those.

I’d suggest the guy get a couple tupperdore containers off Amazon, and put them in there with beads/bovidas. Or, @BlindedByScience posted a genius idea I have never heard of before. Vacuum seal a box with a Boveda on top of it, let that sit for a year.

I’m a teacher a man to fish guy. Though. Helping my neighbor set up a tupperdore now. Fairly inexpensive and effective in a foolproof kind of way.

but then how would @CBoukal be able to steal cigars from him???
.

I have very little extra room right now. I could probably squeeze in a couple more boxes, but not more than that.

Or, so that your spreadsheet is 100% accurate, just send me a ridiculous amount of cigars. I’ll fill up everything I’ve got and send you back what’s left over.
