Swissy

I'm a married career firefighter in Anchorage, AK, and have been for almost 25 years now (both). Currently in the position of Engineer (Driver/Operator) where I drive the rigs, and run the pump, ladder and/or tools depending on what I'm driving. Current assignment is Station 4, Heavy Rescue 4. Rescue is the rolling toolbox - no water, hose or ladders. All rescue gear like saws, air tools, pneumatic lifting bags, hydraulic tools (Jaws of Life) and so on. Our main focus at fires is rescue, of both civilian and downed firefighters trapped in a structure. Also auto extrication, surface water rescue, dive rescue, and more! A great job, and rewarding. Best part of the job is seeing the face of a child light up when you wave back at them.
Cigars are a passion, as well as thing such as fishing, hiking, hunting and other outdoor activities here in Alaska. I've been a cigar smoking for going on 14 years now? For years all I smoked was Fuente Chateau's and Padron 3000's. Then one day I thought there had to be more than this in life! During a trip to Spain with my entire in-law family (a whole 'nother story!) I sampled a Cuban cigar (or so I thought!). So there I am, sitting on the balcony of a hotel room on the Mediterranean Sea, with a glass of local Brandy (VERY good...) and a Cuban cigar. There's a beautiful sunset, some clouds and a lightning storm way out on the sea making for an awesome spectacle behind me. I light the cigar, take a few puffs, and to this day I remember thinking... "What's all the fuss? this thing tastes like crap!". A few more puffs, and the same thought. And again... and again. So I tossed it, and grabbed my trusty Chateau. Upon getting back to the States, I did some looking, found out about fakes, did some research, found Cigar Pass as a result, and my life has been ruined ever since.

I've had the pleasure of meeting a few CP members, mostly at the 2 Outlaw events I've been to (Padron '07 and Fuente '08) But a few have visited Alaska and we've hooked up, and I've traveled outside and met a few that way. Overall it's a lot of fun to finally put a face to an online name!

I've been in a few passes, and have run a few, with the last being my Puppy Pass III which was sent in it's entirety to a group of soldiers in Iraq once it was completed. At this time, I plan to not participate in any more passes, for one main reason. I have found that I get a great cigar I want to try, but then a pass comes along with another cigar I want to try, and the only thing I can put for taking that new cigar is the old cigar I want to try! So no more passes for me at this stage. I may still run a pass, and pass it on to Iraq... but that remains to be seen. An occasional bomb will be sent, and who knows what else.

-Some of my fav cigars:
OpusX (xXx!)
Anejo
Padron '26, '64, 40th, 80th
Pepin Blue Lanceros
Tatuaje (most!)
CoRo
RASS
PLPC
SLR 'A'
A Robusto fan...

Like microbrews (IPA), and just getting into wines. After a trip into Oregon, Pinot Noirs are the favorite right now. But any red that is heavy/chewy/full bodied is a favorite. I've been fortunate enough to have been sent some fantastic wines by a couple of members here and all I can say is wow... there are some great wines out there! I look forward to trying more, and more, and more. Attending the Wine Herf was an eye opener as far as wines go. We learned a lot from our host, NorCalCigarLover and his lovely bride, and from attending so many tastings. We hope to attend another Wine Herf!!

My other passion is fishing. Living in Alaska, I'm spoiled. But I'm sick and tired of the combat fishing on the rivers - shoulder to shoulder, fighting for a spot. SCREW THAT! So I bought a 24' ocean going boat and have never looked back! Named the "Swissy Baroo' (which loosely translated from dog speak means happy place) she is a fish killing machine! Just Ask Cory...! King Salmon are my top favorite, followed by silvers and Halibut. But any trip on the water is worth my time so what the hell. Before the day of $4.50 fuel, it was not uncommon for me to go out and just anchor up for a nap r a cigar and watch the world float by. Nowadays I try to find others to go with me and split the fuel cost... 3mpg and a 127gal fuel tank hurt now. But not enough no make me quit! C'mon up to go fishing! The Swissy Baroo almost always has a spare seat available...and the newest thing is dropping Shrimp pots in the most beautiful place I know, Prince William Sound (home of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, those bastards). Killer Whales, Humpback Whales, Steller Sea Lions, sea otters, millions of sea birds, and shrimp shrimp shrimp! Drop the pots, sightsee for a few hours, drop a hook for some YellowEye (Red Snapper) and then pull the shrimp pots. MMmmm good! Crabbing is done in Homer, on theway out for halibut. We get a relative of the Snow Crab, the Tanner Crab. Drop the pot, go halibut fishing all day, and on the way back to the harbor pull the pot. With any luck a feast of fresh halibut and crab! Sucks to live up here, no?

Some make ask.... Swissy? what the hell kinda handle is that?!?! You're not Swiss, you're not in Switzerland... so what gives? Well, it comes from my dogs. Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. Greatest dog I have ever owned! I'll never be without one from this point forward. Goofy, fun loving, mischievous, loyal, hard working, protective, loving... what more can you ask for? Swissy is the affectionate name for them, like Rottie is to the Rottweiler or Lab to all the labrador's out there. And I use it since all the handles I usually use (mostly for gaming online) are taken on this board and that... but Swissy is always available. And the lovable mug in my avatar is my boy Porter... 130 pounds of pure love and joy! Just don't piss him off...!

Jim S.
addy provided upon request
(as long as you make it a good reason!)

been bombed (wow... simply wow!)
have bombed...
will bomb again!

Newbie sampler trade with rnccen COMPLETE.
Was in the Newbie Sampler thread as a FOG (LMFAO)
Now just hangin' out

Passes:
Working Man's Pass
West Coast Pass
Robusto Pass
Ree Ree's All-Star Line-Up
The PTB Pass
The PCS pass
Puppy Pass (HOST)
Not Your Everyday Cigar Pass
Puppy Pass II (HOST)
BDTSF Multi-Sack Pass
The Pass with Class
Ammo Can Pass
THANKSAFUGGINLOT Pass
Marc/Mike's Virtual Pass
SSSBLALG Pass
Puppy Pass III (HOST)
Chat Pass
858 Pass
You Learn Something New Every Year Pass

Oh yeah- did I mention cigars?!?!? Full flavor is the spice of life! I tend to like fuller bodied, strong cigars with a lot of flavor.

No more passes... I'm done passing. Many others will be run around here!
