Ye Old Newbie
If we've heard this story once, we've heard it a dozen times over the last five or six years.
'Rains & storms cause damage to cigar industry in Cuba.'
Come on man! When will this country take the growing, curing, production, and distribution of cigars seriously? Whenever there is a tropical storm or hurricane, the storm destroys the curing barns...or floods the tobacco fields...the high wind rips up the tobacco plants...or causes destruction to the factories...etc...etc...etc. SOS every year.
To add insult to injury, people in the know were raving about the latest harvest as being one of the best in many years. I heard statements like, "I can't wait until 2019-2020 for this year's tobacco to start seeing it's way into the market".
When will they finally invest a few dollars to secure the safety of the factories, curing barns, and storage facilities? After sugar, it the second largest export of the island that is growing by double digits each year due to the Chinese market exploding and more CC seeing their way into the US...yet, the industry still looks like something described in a Hemingway novel or a B&W picture of the 40s.
