This cigar was one of a handful I won in a contest in the current newbie pass courtesy of Jonesy.
My Uzi Weighs A Ton +11
5.5" x 52
I smoked it outside at home on the porch. It was 91 degrees and somewhat humid with a very light intermittent breeze.
Beverage: Grapevine Brewery Lakefire Rye Pale Ale.
Initial Cut: Punch
Pre light:
Great medium draw with mostly bitter coffee notes. The foot is giving off a lot of chocolate.
Light:
I used a triple flame torch and toasted gently and only barely hit it with the torch on the first draw. This thing produced a ton a smoke right from the first draw.
First third:
The first third is somewhat non-descript. It certainly had flavor but it was just generic premium cigar flavors with nothing specific really coming out yet other than a touch of slightly bitter nuttiness. It is squarely medium bodied and medium strength at this point. Something liquid definitely needs to accompany this cigar as it is very dry in the mouth. No issues with the burn. It isn't laser straight but isn't requiring any work on my part other than rotating it. The ash is flaky storm cloud grey and fell off about an inch in.
Second third:
Consistent with the first third. The draw tightened up slightly but is still right in the range I enjoy. It is picking up some woody cedar notes but you have to really look for it. The burn has improved to the point of almost perfection although it did almost go out but that was due to user neglect as I let it sit too long. I'm not really picking up anything else on the retrohale either.
Final third:
The draw tightened up a little more and I hit it with a guillotine, which brought it back to where I prefer. The burn is still good and it is still producing a ton of smoke. Not a lot has changed. It is still medium/medium and is showing a touch of spice for the first time. I smoked it down to about an inch left. It started to get a bit hot toward the end but it certainly seems to be a cigar that you can take to the nub without it becoming harsh.
Conclusion:
I really liked all of the physical features of this cigar such as the great burn and draw and the amount of smoke it produced. I didn't dislike the flavor profile but it was lacking in complexity. I would definitely add a few of these to the humidor as it is a great smoke for times when I don't want a contemplative smoke or will be smoking while doing other things. For me, it was solidly medium all the way around and the aftertaste 30 minutes after finishing is very pleasant.
Thanks, Jonesy!!!
