What's in your pipe today? 2013

Lots and lots of Penzance I found in the back of the cabinet. I need to lighten up a bit so I have some of this to enjoy this winter.

Enjoying a bowl of 30 yr old Mac Baren Golden Extra in a cob while out with the dog tonight. Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day!

Cracked open a tin of 2008 McClelland Aurora tonight. Had the classic McClelland Virginia smell, great moisture level right out of the tin. It's a nice mild smoke that's still full of flavor!

Smokers' Haven Exotique Mixture in a MM cob while walking the dog tonight. What a gorgeous evening! The humidity finally took a day off!

My pipe came in yesterday. Corn cob. I smoked my first bowl today, it was Captain Black. Just the regular one.

I think I packed it too tight because I couldn't keep it lit. I followed the steps of adding a little then packing it gently with your finger. But I think I put too much.

As for the taste, I'm not sure what I got out of it. It was kind of a burnt taste? Some points it resembled a Swisher Sweet Cigar.

Not sure. I'm guessing the taste will get better once cake builds up around the bowl?

Welcome to the club of no-clue-how-to-pack.  I keep hope that I'll get better at it.  As for taste, I haven't smoked that blend but what I can tell you in my limited experience is that cigar tobacco and pipe tobacco are very different.  If you're expecting to smoke a pipe and have it taste exactly like a cigar you might be disappointed, however it can still be quite enjoyable tasting different blends.

Had a nice bowl of '09 McClelland Red Cake at Serious with Sar and one of our mutual friends.. Finally have my bowl technique down to where I can get through it with a good, cool burn and only tamper it a handful of times. It's not perfect, but its a heck of a lot better than when I started this journey a few months ago.

Hahahaha yea that's about where I'm at.

I had another bowl of Captain Black this morning. I realized I did two things yesterday wrong.
1. Packed the bowl with too much tobacco
2. I forgot to let the tobacco dry out on a plat for a little bit.

Today I used less tobacco, and let the tobacco air out for about 10-15 mins.
Much better today although it still went out a bunch and I had to relight it. But it stayed lit way easier than yesterday. Still can't describe the flavor. The scent in the air is very pleasant also.

Captain Black again yesterday. Still trying to get the packing technique down better.

Very pleasant room note.

Cornell & Diehl Nutty Irishman in a MM Danish spool cob. Wife is having a bowl of C&D Two Friends Celtic Mist in a MM hardwood. It's an aromatic kinda night!
