So considering it's the Thanksgiving long weekend, and the weather has started to turn towards the winter feel I thought it'd be a good time to take the time to smoke (probably) my last cigar outside for this year. I decided to take this stick out for a test drive.
Construction and appearance
One word will describe it: Beautiful. The foot was nicely bunched, only a few visible veins on the light brown wrapper. The tapered head was very nicely formed too. It felt heavy in the hand, and gave slightly when squeezed.
Draw, burn, and taste
The draw was spot on, just enough resistance for my liking. The foot lit up nicely and produced lots of thick white smoke. Burn was very straight through the whole cigar save for one minor touch up needed right at the start, but I'll attribute that to a poor job lighting on my part.
First third: Smooth and light. Tobacco was the dominant flavour, with a hint of licorice. There was something about the aftertaste though that just wasn't as enjoyable as most cigars I smoke.
Second third: Flavours still smooth, but the spice is picking up a bit. Definitely not a powerful spice, and it's only along the tongue and not the palate or back of the throat. The woody/cedar flavours started to come through, as well as some roasted nuts. The less-than-favourable aftertaste practically disappeared here too.
Final third: Not too much flavour evolution through here. The smoke was still as thick and rich as is was at the start, and that aftertaste came back... albeit less pronounced than in the 1st.
The ash held strong for about 1.5" and was dense and white/grey.
Overall, a decent smoke. The aftertaste I mentioned in the beginning might keep me from buying another of these, but there could be a few factors affecting my taste.. one being I have a bit of a cold right now.
